That was a foul. Auburn vs Virginia game.
I only saw maybe the last fives mins. Seemed like a great game. Auburn came back and basically had it won. Virginia fought to the end and was lucky again to pull it out. Was not rooting for either. I actually like all four teams in it this year.

I felt bad for Auburn. But have watched it several times and it was a foul, plain and simple. Hate for it to end like that but the official made the right call.

Other than true Auburn fans, anyone else say otherwise.

Agreed. No way the refs could not call it.

It was also a double dribble by UV.

I'm not going to argue the foul call, other than to say that it never should have come to that.

Jerome of VA clearly double dribbled with 3 seconds left, and it was not called. Auburn should have had possession of the ball.

I hate when officials determine the outcome of a game rather than the players.

As I said, I did not get to see much of it. Did not see the play where the DD happened. I just saw it and yeah, that was a definite violation that should of been called. I agree bbs. But yep it is history. Auburn coach handled it as you would want your coach to. Classy.

Officials miss calls

No one in the stadium saw the double dribble.

Not the refs, not auburn, not anyone

Listen to the professionals...if Gene Staratore doesn’t point out the double dribble on tv no one would have known it happened...no one is a bigger auburn homer than Charles Barkeley and he said the same thing

It was a missed call.

You can go back and watch the whole game and tally how many things officials missed...I thought Jerome clearly got fouled when UVA was up 10, right before Jerome (like an idiot) got his fourth foul...if that gets called, Jerome never is out, and maybe auburn never goes on the run

This was big because of the game situation..it was absolutely a missed call....I’m not denying that...I’m just pointing out that it wasnt the only one...there will be missed calls Monday

It isn’t why uva won

Kyle Guy still had to hit that 3, Auburn had to miss a free throw, and then yes, it was a foul on Guy’s shot, and he had to stand there and make all 3 free throws

If you’re an auburn fan you can grab ahold of that missed call as your hill to die on

But it’s a disservice to both teams to do it....officials miss calls...it’s part of the game...both teams played their heart out, UVA won, Auburn lost. It happens

IMHO they should not have called that foul. Was it a ticky tacky foul yes....should they have called it, no....My opinion. However, that guy made 3 free throws and that was impressive.

I’ll disagree with you there

That was clearly a foul that indfluenced the shot

In no way was that a tricky tack foul

That is 100% consistent with how that type of play is called

The defensive player started at point A, jumped towards the shooter and contacted the shooter while he was in the air and landed at point B in the shooters space when he comes back down

It’s a foul

If the kid had gone straight up and down and Guy had leaned into him and got the foul? Then there is a gripe...it happens all the time, especially in the NBA, and I hate it

But that didn’t happen here

10/10 times that’s a foul

And if it’s a foul with 11 minutes left in the first half, then it has to be a foul with a second left in the game

The missed double dribble was a clear error that should have given auburn the ball and the win

That was a missed call... the foul was not

Refs screw up games all the time and they screwed up this one bad and it sucks for Auburn. Just can’t happen like that at this level at THAT point in the game. Fouls are judgement calls and you go with it. Kid hit his FT so you give him props but he shouldn’t have been there. You got to, just got to call the DD forced by auburn in the middle of the court. It’s middle school basketball and should be easy for those refs. Not always easy for me but it should be for them. Sadly, all the crying now doesn’t change the name on the bracket. So let’s pull for TT and move on. That bitching being said, that ref should see the bench.

Agreed. When Jerome didn't get that huge call, he reacted wrong and set up the Auburn run.

Whatever the case, very happy Pearl is out.

Likely a smart foul since you traded the risk of losing if the 3 pointer goes in for the reduced possibility of a player making 3 free throws under extreme pressure.

Which is all you really need to watch.

In fact, Basketball Games should ONLY be 5 minutes, with both teams over the limit.

That was a foul, but it was also a double dribble (I didn’t notice it at the time).

In general, I think the officiating has been pretty bad this year. I’ve seen several missed obvious calls and numerous phantom fouls called. The refs rarely determine the outcome, it’s just annoying to see bad calls in large quantities.

disclaimer : i did not see the game but have been reading about it...

Question: how did the foul call mesh with the way the REST of the game was called?

the call (or no call) should mesh with the spirit of the officiating for the whole game IMO

in other words - the refs shouldn't 'let them play' for 98% of the game and then find their whistle in the last 2 minutes...

see that in soccer sometimes

Sounds like a good game though - tough to see any game be that contentious at the end based on officiating

Went back and watched and definitely a double dribble call was missed. I didn’t watch the whole game but that was a bad no call.

More than a 2 point gap and it doesn't matter. Yeah, the foul was clear and would be called every time whether first 2 seconds or the last.

The DD now......

As a neutral observer, that wasn't a foul. Was there contact? Sure, but there is contact on most possessions in basketball. You do not blow the whistle in that situation and anyone who thinks they should have doesn't understand the game as well as they think.
