Thank you Very little |
A little Villages Humor Two very active seniors (Jacob, age 92, and Mariam, age 89), living in "The Villages" of Florida, are all excited about their decision to get married. They go for a stroll to discuss the wedding, and on the way they pass a drugstore and they decide go in. Jacob addresses the man behind the counter: "Are you the owner?" The pharmacist answers, "Yes." Jacob: "We're about to get married. Do you sell heart medication?" Pharmacist: "Of course we do." Jacob: "How about medicine for circulation?" Pharmacist: "All kinds." Jacob: "Medicine for rheumatism?" Pharmacist: "Definitely." Jacob: "How about suppositories and medicine for impotence?" Pharmacist: "You bet!" Jacob: "Medicine for memory problems, arthritis and Alzheimer's?" Pharmacist: "Yes, a large variety. The works." Jacob: "What about vitamins, sleeping pills, Geritol?" Pharmacist: "Absolutely." Jacob: "Everything for heartburn and indigestion?" Pharmacist: "Absolutely." Jacob: "You sell wheelchairs and walkers and canes?" Pharmacist: "All speeds and sizes." Jacob: "Adult diapers?" Pharmacist: "Sure, how can I help you? Jacob: "We'd like to use your store as our Bridal Registry.

Eye on the Silver Lining |
I heard word that they shut down the airport both ways by midnight last night. An acquaintance who was the pilot was the one of the last to fly out. I hope you guys get there, but better to be stuck somewhere safe than in the middle of that. Best of luck. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

Wife and I spent a good deal of time yesterday helping our daughter get out of Tampa before the 12AM cutoff. Had originally been set to return to Richmond, VA 8/29 aboard American Airlines (through Charlotte) but she ended up working with a AA counter agent and she was put on a plane to Miami then to Reagan National yesterday 8/28. Goofy child was about to rent a car and drive out just so she could make it to work Wednesday. Good luck to you and the Mrs. Beancooker. It sucks when plans are interrupted which has a cascading affect. ___________________________ No thanks, I've already got a penguin.

Savor the limelight |
Better to be stuck where you are, where everything is open and functioning normally, than down here. Hopefully, where you are planning to go will be up and running quickly, so you’ll still be able to enjoy vacation in Florida that’s just a little shorter than planned.

Where were you flying into, Tampa?

Airlines will fly you in if the airport is open. Travelers in Hawaii were flown in to Kaui. They even rented a car and found their hotel in the ocean. No electricity or water. Four days later the airline flew them out. This was in the 1980s and airlines have not gotten any better.

We were flying into Orlando. Staying at The Villages. Yes, better stuck here than in bad weather. Im sorry for all that are affected by this. You all have concerns of flooding, etc. I’m just losing some Airbnb money. Nothing compared to what some have to go through. The “lol” thread

My wife and I flew out of Orlando a couple of days ago. I think we got out at a good time... We stayed a week at Port Canaveral. It was pretty neat watching the ships come and go. Also, we got up at 3 am on Saturday and watched the launch of Falcon 9. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Are they getting you in today? Tomorrow? While the rain and wind was bad at 3-4am, I left the house around 7:30am and did even need my wipers for my 8 minute drive. It has rained a little since then, but nothing heavy. And as I sit here on the second floor looking out the window at a large oak tree, the wind is easily in the single digits. And all of this is 5 miles north of Orlando. International.

Beancooker: Can you still go? We flew into Orlando 2 days before Dorian in 2019 which ended up not even affecting the Orlando area but had the positive effect of scaring most people away from Universal and Magic Kingdom and it was glorious to be able to walk around and not deal with crowds and go right on rides with no wait. We were there again in February of this year and it was miserably packed shoulder-to-shoulder everywhere and long lines. I told my wife "yeah we'll never see 2019 type conditions again!" You may still be able to get down there and salvage your vacation!
