Died at age 83, Alzheimer’s.

I went to Indiana from 1980 to 1983. Was privileged to be on campus when the Hoosiers won the title in 1981, Knight’s 2nd NCAA title.

Deeply flawed man, but a coaching genius. He had a helluva sense of humor, too. Tragic end to his Hoosier coaching days but he reconciled with the University in recent years and appeared on the court during a game… a few weeks ago he was spotted attending a practice.

Mike Krzyzewski played for Knight at West Point. The current Indiana coach, Mike Woodson, also played for Knight at IU.

Some people despised him, some people were bewildered by his antics. I loved the guy. He will forever define Indiana basketball.

What a great coach and man.

I don’t think IU has beaten Syracuse since Keith Smart hit “The Shot” as it’s known in Hoosierland.

I play golf with a Syracuse fan… when I want to get him riled all I have to say is “Keith Smart, jumper… from the corner!… GOOD!!!”

RIP Coach Bobby, I had a tremendous amount of respect for him as a coach..

UK vs IU were some of the premier college basketball games back in the day, many played in Louisville

He was a character from a bygone era. As you pointed out, he was a deeply flawed man but, where he shined, he excelled as a basketball strategist. By the time I took to and understood coaching, guys like Knight were on the way out, I could respect most guys like him but, Knight seemed to have great difficulty adapting and understanding the landscape as each succeeding generation of kids came of age.

In the mold of Woody Hayes. God speed coach. Thanks for the memories.

Purdue alumni here. I was a student when Gene Keady was our coach and Bobby Knight was IU's coach. The Purdue - IU intrastate basketball rivalry was always intense and in one of the games (before my time) is when Knight infamously threw the chair. After all the years of intense rivalry, Knight and Keady ended up becoming good friends.

Always preferred the style of ball he coached to the run and gun playground crap we have today.

I fell pretty old now that Joe B Hall, Denny Crum and Bobby Knight have passed away. Those were the pillars of b-ball coaching when I was growing up in KY.

When Knight was coach at IU you could be sure of two things. Bobby would put on a good show on the sidelines, and the team would put on a good show on the floor. Godspeed Coach Knight!

If Derrick Coleman and Howard Triche had made their foul shots in the minutes before, there would have been no need for "The Shot".

Of course if "Ifs and Buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

Great coach and disciplinarian. Hope hie wish to be buried facing down is honored. The people who brought him down can then kiss his ass.

I watched him at an Iowa Hawkeyes game , all the way back in the 1900's.

He was very well behaved during that game.

I should have tattooed that date on me somewhere.
