I have both Asics Trail Runners and Solomon hiking shoes that I like well. Although the Asics (and Hokas that I also like) have started wearing out prematurely in the inside heel area.
Whatever you choose I'd highly recommend upgrading the insoles. I've had significantly less plantar fasciitis issues since I've done so.

Sketchers brand of slip-on sneakers.

Agreed, Sketchers for me too. Bought them on amazon with a free try it on before you pay and loved them. I now have several pair.

I've heard that six-month thing too, but honestly, I just replace my walking shoes when they're worn out, regardless of how long I've had them. For flat asphalt, good supportive walking shoes are key. Maybe check out some reviews of Brooks or New Balance

I use Sketchers slip ons, I am rough on shoes and these things hold up very well. I have a pair that I bought at one of their outlets, got second pair free. First pair is still in very good shape after one year and I wear these things every day and to the gym (3/4 mile on treadmill,3-4x a week). I have a good size foot and I was wondering how the slip on material would hold up at the back where the heel slides in. Material is starting to show loss but that and the tread being worn are about it. Have had several skeetchers over the years and they all have held up well.

GORUCK Ballistic Trainers are the best walking shoe I have ever owned. Firm, supportive, comfortable and, most importantly, incredibly stable.

My step-daughter tells me that they are the official shoe of cross-training and have become popular for pickleball as well.

I don’t do any of those things but for rucking and walking I have never used anything better.

I would suggest going to a store that specializes in running footwear. They have the expertise to properly fit your footwear. I can highly recommend Fleet Feet. They have locations in Florida…

This is good advice. Get fitted, see what works. Asolo makes a good boot, but I just can't get fit well in them. Salomon and Lowa work. The opposite could be true for you.

Again, thank you everyone.

It looks like I am going to have to visit a few stores to try on some shoes you all have recommended.

I am currently breaking out a new pair of Merrill's that have been sitting for about a year.
My routine was, to always have a new pair/backup pair of shoes put away.

When the current shoes I was wearing needed to be replaced out came the backup pair, however since I am going to start walking again I was looking for a pair of dedicated shoes just for that purpose.

It looks like my biggest problem will be finding something in my size. I am a size 14 and it has been a problem finding shoes I like in my size.

Years ago when I lived in N.J. I spent most of my time in either work boots or lace up fire boots. For some reason back then they seamed to be easier to find, then finding shoes that I like in my size now.

Again thank you everyone for the recommendations.

My wife and I were out today and we were near a store that sold some of the shoes you all recommended so we stopped in.
After over an hour, and after trying on several different pairs I ended up with a pair of HOKA BONDI 9.

I have got to say I have never owned anything that felt like these. Very comfortable and something I never experienced in a shoe, they are springy when I walk.
The salesman also recommended a shoe wider than I am used to. He said after looking at the shoes I was wearing and how I was walking in them, he recommended something a little wider. He was right.

I start walking again this Monday. This is the first time in my life that I am looking forward to exercise.

Thanks again for all the recommendations.
