I have a 2017 Limited and it has been very reliable with no issues. There’s nothing out there with blind spot monitoring,precollision system and adaptive cruise for the Highlanders price point.

Traded my 2015 Limited for an Acura MDX, which is a little larger in the cargo area and a much better, luxury type ride and much quieter.

Plus it doesn't have that annoying torque steer that the Toyota had under high acceleration when making a turn.

And it gets better mileage than the Toyota.

Take her to drive one before making the decision.
We have a 2012 Highlander it is great but a pain with 3 kids. My wife fought me tooth and nail on an Expedition. We settled on a Sienna. Both hated it bought an Expedition EL and my wife loves it.
My wife and I both find it easier to park than the Highlander.

The in-laws have a Suburban for when they have our crew as their Tahoe was too small and just bought a 2018 Highlander as the mother in laws daily.

Our 2012 Highlander has 60k miles and has been great.
Intermidiate steering shaft has the clunk that most Toyota’s got during that era. The motor for the power lift gate just bit the dust and is going to stay that way at $650 for a new motor.

It’s a V6, so 2003 model year utilized a belt. Some of the late model V6’s are chains, as were a lot of the 4 bangers. Just depends on the engine and model year.

Been there done that, thus how I know she won’t drive one. It’s about all she can do to drive my 2005 F-150. She drove that done from MO with the girls in it when we moved back to Texas (her SUV was on a trailer behind the U-Haul) and she was spent after 9 hours. She’s just not happy/comfortable in a large vehicle.

Like I said I’ll likely end up in an Expedition in 3-4 years as the family hauler for anything more than around town.

She has an RDX now but isn’t interested in the MDX. My mother has had two MDXs (in a 2017 currently) which is probably why she doesn’t want one. I do agree though that the current MDX is nice, although not as attractive as previous models.
