I remember a pop up window like that about a month ago on my I Mac. It had the same wording, I was busy at the time, one of those pop ups that come from the side of the screen, did the credential part of it, but not the backup. No damage here, I do believe that message was from Apple.

Hmm, now I'm thinking that the pop-up window this morning was legit. I went in directly from the iCloud app on my PC, and indeed I was logged out. Logged back in, and so far, so good.

Me either. When I’m asked to allow use of the Apple keyring I always choose: “Never for this site.” I rely on my PW manager instead. Serious about crackers

An additional sad thing that I just learned after the iCloud backup deleted all user-created files from my MacBook. Apple Time Machine apparently doesn’t backup system files. Jesus. I had a nicely set up /etc/sudoers file, but the whole-machine restore didn’t restore that file. And I can’t find it in my Time Machine backup discs. The root directory, “/“, isn’t there. At least I haven’t been able to find it. Serious about crackers
