They must have found out that somewhere somebody might still be interested in shopping there and felt compelled to remedy the situation.

Good for him, he's at a much better store now anyway. But it's almost hard to believe that they actually wanted to steal 20% of a purchase because of a stupid decision THEY made.

Keeping their deposit money after dropping a vendor or line is sorry and evil beyond words.

I returned a Christmas gift (1 of 2)bought from them due to there inhumane policies. If my wife weren't so overly sensitive I'd returned both.

Had to tell her no purchases for me from progressive policied companies. In this Christmas season it meant REI and Dicks.

What exactly is worth buying at Dick's?

I can go to R.E.I. or L.L. Bean to get any type of outdoor gear, equipment or clothing. And they have knowledgeable sales staff.

Perhaps the potential silver lining Dick's latest move is that the Hunting community will wake up and finally understand that their 'rifles' are under siege and direct attack too.

A good shot can cause a lot of damage with a hunting rifle; high powered or the simple shot gun.

As for Dick's. Only ever bought a baseball cap there, just because I needed one for one of my volunteer activities and my NRA caps would not be good. Otherwise, never been back. I've got Sportsman's warehouse and Cabela's for my gun and ammo needs - and other items either of them sell.

Dick's going limp slowly as their profit levels continue to sink, regardless of what ever financial and public relations viagra or testosterone they are grabbing at. Good riddance.

It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.

I have to wonder if guns, related merchandise, and hunting in general has been a big money maker for them for a while. Combine that with the now relentless political pressure against guns, and maybe they just thought it didn't make business sense to carry this stuff any more.

Yeah, I haven't bought a single thing from REI since they crapped all over the NRA and its members, and I used to be a regular customer. I now shop at Scheels exclusively for my outdoor needs. And even better, they have a very good inventory of firearms for decent prices. Scheels is awesome.

Actually it was them & MEC dropping CamelBak, Bell, Giro, Bolle & Camp Chef because their corporate parent Vista Outdoor, also owns Savage, Federal and a few other shooting industry brands.
Fuck REI, I've ceased buying anything there. Switching to my local private outdoor shop, which is starting to exceed REI's offerings. Dick's is simply a price-point sporting goods store, main business is athletic apparel, golf/tennis, mid-priced footwear and pop-up tents. Their firearms business while big (consider how many stores they have), didn't necessarily move the needle with regards to service or, selection.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Where stores like dicks will get hurt is anytime the wife and I went in I would go to gun section to look around ( this is long before the policy changes) she would end up going to the women’s section and often picked up a few things. That sale would have never happened if I didn’t go there.
I suspect some stores will close especially in the pro 2a regions as a result

Now they’ve totally scrapped all firearms sales. I haven’t been in two years and will never go back. Asshat CEO. They can sell there over priced yoga pants & sneakers to soccer mums and millennials

Oh yeah, that's right. That was even more egregious than the NRA thing. Arrogant, smug pricks.

Dick’s Sporting Goods Makes Another Huge Mistake
Dick’s Sporting Goods Makes Another Huge Mistake
True Daily Staff March 13, 2019 News 48 Comments

Reeling from lost business for its anti-gun stance, Dick’s has decided to go all in and ban guns from being sold at its stores. The Free Beacon reports:

Dick’s Sporting Goods said during an earnings call on Tuesday that it plans to remove firearms and ammunition from 125 of its stores in the coming year and will remove them from more stores over the next few years.

The company said the 10 stores they had removed guns from in the fall had performed up to their expectations and that they now plan to remove guns from 125 of their 858 stores nationwide over the next six months. They said they likely would continue removing guns from the rest of their stores over a period of several years.

“We look at this as a multiyear initiative,” Edward W. Stack, Dick’s chairman and chief executive officer, told investors during the call. “The 10 stores we were very pleased with, we’re expanding it to 120-some stores. We’ll see how that goes. If it goes as well as expected, we would probably take another batch of stores next year.”

Dick’s, one of the nation’s largest gun retailers, has, by their own account, alienated many customers and manufacturers within the gun industry over the last few years. Their trouble in the industry began after they announced in response to the Sandy Hook shooting that they would no longer sell certain semiautomatic rifles like the AR-15. Within a year, the company reversed course when it opened the firearms-centric Field and Stream store chain. In the wake of the Parkland shooting, the company reversed themselves again and announced they would not sell AR-15s or similar rifles. In addition, the company instituted a policy of age discrimination aimed at adults between the ages of 18 and 21 and hired lobbyists to advocate for new gun-control legislation.

It remains to be seen if the lost business from hunters and outdoorsmen can be made up with new liberal business.
