Was at our local Cabela's a couple days back. Line at the gun counter went almost to the front door. Gun counter is in the back of the store.

last Saturday I did the 4473 thing at my local pawn & gun. It was a 30 min. wait. I guess that's what a $10.50 fee gets you in Colorado. It was 3-4+ days following Sandy Hook and prior to our Universal Background legislation.

I have gift cards from my plumbing wholesaler that are good at Golf Galaxy, Dick's and Field & Stream. I went to F&S last week and saw what was the emptiest ammo shelves I have ever seen, obscure calibers only and very few of them!
Happy I stocked up in good times!!

The last 4 or so guns I bought I was delayed in the insta-check process...once for 2 full days. The system is being taxed to its limits it seems.

I have been told by those in the know, specific to Oregon, it has been "Black Friday" since this spring for background checks. It has not let up. The queue is deep, but they're working through it.

The chart above shows some incredible numbers for 2020, which we’ve all known. What I didn’t appreciate is how sustained the increase in gun purchases has been. March 2019 was the last month in which checks didn’t set an all time record for that particular month.

A few months ago people who came into my friends store in the mornings were told "we will call you when it comes back but it probably won't be till tomorrow"
Some background checks were taking 12 to 15 hours to come back.
I was hanging out there one day when this was going on. I watched one guy who had a 3 day wait have his background check come back in less than 5 minutes. Another customer with a concealed permit, I was told his background check took till the next day the next time I was there hanging out.
There was no rhyme or reason to it.

When I go to Gunbroker, the site shows plenty of AR-15s and pistols at fairly normal prices. This P365, dealer has over 10 for sale, for $600:

So there is inventory, perhaps just not at the local stores.

There was no rime or reason to it.
In my state a LTC/CHL holder does not have to have a NICS check.

(BTw, "rime" is a form of ice--you meant "rhyme".)

Those of you that might remember (I can't remember what I had for lunch), one of the arguments against the "instant check" system was that if it didn't come back in 3 days, you could buy it anyway. It was pretty clear that if the gov just didn't fund the system adequately, they could ban guns by just not allowing any checks to go through. Seems kind of like where we are going now.

It took just minutes at Cabelas Springfield for my check to go through Saturday. Near instant I would say.

About 3 weeks ago I got the Oregon "over 3000th in queue" report. My FFL guy called 5 days later & said it finally cleared.
