I'm not talking about McDonalds. For those who work in some professional industry (ex. requires licenses, certifications, etc.) and have been looking to make a career change, does it seem like job availability is a bit limited?

I suspected as much, but after monitoring openings daily for a month now, it looks to be a tighter market than I realized.

Professional mechanics, and some office jobs are needed in the mining industry (mainly copper) in AZ. Pay is great, hours are long, as much overtime as you want.

In the quad cities, not great,
now in Johnson and Linn Counties in Iowa,

way better than great.

Iowa is in the top 8 for unemployment and Johnson county is the best in the state of 99 counties .

If you ain't working in JoCo. you ain't trying

It’s starting to come back here slowly. For the past 6 months it’s been mostly contract stuff and little perm hires. Now I’m seeing the beginning of perm hire positions just starting to trickle in.

Oil and gas jobs are tough to come by due to all of the 2020 layoffs.

Fortunately, Houston has diversified since the 80s oil bust and the overall economic climate isn't like the 80s oil bust. For example, houses are selling fast due to low interest rates which is a stark contrast to what my buddies who lived in Houston in the 80s bust said about the bust tanking the housing market.

Depending on your age, former compensation and a couple other variables it can leave a lot to be desired. IMHO, it's a buyers market in Seattle metro. If you're over 60, even dropping 50-70k in base salary is challenging. I remain unemployed.

Lots of people want to hire me but they all want to pay what I'm worth, and I can't imagine trying to live on that. I'll just stay retired for now.

LOTS of work in Lexington, KY for health care professionals, production types, and management. I keep up with jobs on a couple of different sites because I know a bunch of younger folks looking down the road, students and such.

Work for me as a long time plumber (self employed) are excellent, almost over demanding for my age.
