Chicago Public Schools teachers say they were told by administrators to give migrant students passing grades Login/Join

Since 2022, nearly 50,000 migrants have been bused to Chicago from the Texas border. While not all of these new arrivals have opted to stay in Chicago, many who have chosen to make the city their new home have been resettled in predominantly Black neighborhoods on the South and West Sides. Now, WGN News can exclusively report that several Chicago Public Schools (CPS) teachers who work in these communities say they were told by school administrators to give migrant students passing grades last school year.

The teachers we spoke with work in CPS elementary schools and say they spoke no Spanish, while their migrant students spoke no English, making communication virtually impossible. They also added that because their schools were located in predominantly Black neighborhoods, they offered no English as a Second Language (ESL) support. Despite this, they say they were instructed by school administrators to give their migrant students a 70 percent in every subject and pass them on to the next grade.

Teachers say this was the case even if their migrant students displayed severe academic deficiencies.

In a recent appearance on WGN Radio’s Lisa Dent Show, prior to being made aware of our investigation, Chicago Public Schools CEO Dr. Pedro Martinez initially maintained that migrant students were held to the same academic standards as CPS students born in Chicago. However, once confronted with our reporting, a CPS spokesperson acknowledged in a statement that the district’s promotion guidelines are “modified to serve the specialized needs of English Language Learners.”

Been saying it for a while, these illegals hurt the poor minority communities the hardest taking away resources. If I were a Chicago resident paying any taxes, I’m gonna be pissed my tax dollars are going to this shit whole Americans born here are getting shorted.

But they’re dems so they won’t see the connection and keep voting dem.

Of course.

My SIL is a teacher in northern VA. Back under the Obama administration they started bringing migrants there and naturally the school system (hospitals and everything else) had to "absorb them".

The schools plan was to place them in their Spanish classes for the first semester or two, where they would backward learn English, as the local students learned Spanish. When Holder's justice department learned of this they came in and said "absolutely not, they WILL be integrated in with the rest of the students regardless whether they understand English and they can learn it that way. And they won't be held back".

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

It makes sense to do doesn't it? They aren't going to learn anything, might as well get them out of the building as fast as possible to save resources for Americans. Why waste money or resources on illegals? Give them a D- and get them the fuck out.

They could do like my county and turn entire schools into Espanol and then the Americans become ESL students.

I rather pass and get rid of the illegals (or children of illegals) to try and help the 20% American students in our schools than aid the 80% others.

Look at the statistics of my highschool. This used to be a great school in one of the best school districts in America. It's even worse at an elementary level.

My ex-girlfriend had to sit through a new parent/school year introduction conducted in Espanol and was provided an English interpreter because it makes more sense to serve the 9/10 Hispanic than the 1/10 Americans.

My area is a lost cause. I just pray for Max pain and continued mass illegal immigration until the tipping point is reached. We are at 80% Hispanic now, probably 85-90% will do it. Eventually people might push back.

Public schools don’t really fail or hold anyone back.
Grades and attendance don’t matter much these days.

Why should they hold anyone back when they're not teaching anything worthwhile in the first place? In other words, it isn't the students that are failing.

One would think that the ability to speak, read, and write English might be the most valuable thing these students could learn, and that the schools are not doing them any favors by ignoring their inabilities (as opposed to curing them).

I agree, move them along. The Chicago public schools are horrible.
Educate the ones that want it and focus on those students.
Trying to tie up resources (money) to have foreign language teachers to teachers foreign speaking students is cost prohibited.
The Chicago public schools and there Teachers union have devastated the the entire educational system and are dragging the entire City down to even lower depths then it already is.
The Chicago citizens elected the biggest fool imaginable as Mayor, His resume is mostly his involvement in the Chicago School system and the Chicago Teachers Union.
Shit in, Shit out!

The powers that be are actively trying to destroy this nation. One tool in their box is ensuring we continue to be a salad bowl rather than a melting pot. The less cohesive our nation is, the easier it will be to advance the cancer of leftism. As we see with commentary from pieces of filth like Cortez, Kerry, Harris, etc etc etc, they’re not even trying to hide either their disdain for the republic or openly putting their plans in motion.

Yes, this is 100% completely true. The only time attendance matters is once a year when it drives Govt funding based upon population.

My wife taught a total of nearly 15 years in public schools in three different districts. NO ONE EVER HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANYTHING...EVER!!

For her last 7 or so years she taught in the local city school district, and it was by far the worst. No kid was ever held back. She attempted to fail 50% of her class her first year there, but was told to pass them all. Some of these kids had straight "F" across the board for every quarter in every subject. Reason, it would make the school look bad on the State's report card. Yea, you can't make up stupid like this.

When she was in graduate school, the school she attended taught Marxist/Communist view openly in every freaking subject! She dropped out a year into the program and never went back and quit teaching two years ago. She has zero intention of ever going back. The entire educational system is complete trash.

They openly believe the current federal immigration policies are inherently discriminatory towards 'less advantaged' and 'darker-skinned' people's, thus they're willfully holding the door open. In their minds, elimination of barriers to entry, helps 'even the playing field', they're willfully putting their thumbs on the scales of immigration policy.

Trying to get changes made legally in their favor will never pass Congress or, the general public, instead they use executive actions and mid-management policy implementation (pressure from higher up to keep their jobs) to push their agenda, shoving people past the turnstiles who are not just ill prepared to integrate into a new society but, many with questionable criminal and mental health backgrounds. They think what they're doing is morally-just instead, its simply taking the ideas & policies of failed inner-cities and attempting to apply them to larger national issue of failed immigration policy and the politicizing of national security. DEI theory and rot runs deep and it's no different to this issue.

No worries about the illegals learning English. Perhaps the goal is to make Spanish the official language? Thus making English the 2nd language.
