Can anyone recommend a brand/model of in-ear noise canceling hearing protection? I'm a little leary of some of the stuff out there as they are new brands with little to no history.
I already have hearing damage, near constant ringing in my ears. Anymore, shooting with traditional ear plugs (foam, Ear Inc, etc.) do not do the job and I can't wear over ear models because they interfere with my cheek weld on a rifle.
Having bluetooth connectivity and some amplification of slight/low sounds would be helpful too.

ensigmaticLove my OTTO NoizeBarriers. After swapping-out the included ear tips for Comply brand tips I finally got to test them at an outdoor range a couple weeks back or so. Shooting .22 cal. rimfire from both pistol and rifle, .223/5.56 from an AR, and 9mm from a Staccato, plus whatever other people were shooting, I'd say they worked as well as my normal over-the-ear Peltor muffs with the gel cushions.
And so comfortable I honestly forgot they were there.
Was able to hold conversations without a problem, even during firing.
They don't have BT by design. OTTO wanted to be able to sell them to the military, and no BT was a requirement.
They have two amplification settings. The default is just a little bit of amplification. The other is bionic ears. I turned that on in the back yard after I first got them and the bird chatter sounded like I was in the middle of a flippin' aviary

I'd been looking for an in-the-ear solution for years. Problem I have is OTE (Over The Ear) earpro just doesn't work for me for long guns. My ears sit kind of low on my head, so even low-profile OTE muffs interfere with cheek weld.
Saw these reviewed somewhere, did my homework, thought "Here's my solution," and went for it.

I agree, I bought mine at Brownells so if they ever go bad they will replace them.

RileySoundGear is amazing but expensive. Custom molded, can be had with different features and either a battery model or rechargeable model.

The economical solution I'd tried was Walker's Silencers. I couldn't make those work for me at all. Luckily, one of them just up and died, so I was able to return them for a refund.
So the main improvement I noted with the NoizeBarriers was they actually worked for me

Barely get a seal on the muffs and it's downright uncomfortable to have the plugs jammed into your ear.

https://earinc.com/shothunt-series/ They are very expensive, but I have tinnitus and hearing loss (will soon get hearing aids). I usually wear a pair of Sordins over these and I never shoot indoors anymore.

If you're going to wear muffs, why not just get electronic muffs and skip the ear buds? If you need more protection use cheap foam under electronic muffs. I thought the whole idea was in-ear for cheek weld with a rifle.

Because my electronic muffs got rained on and shorted out and I've never replaced them yet.

dry-flyI have a pair of Otto’s as well. I used them recently at a 2 day, indoor handgun training class. I can very much recommend them. I had a pair of in ear Walkers, they flat out sucked.

TRIOYears ago, I tried the amplified over the ear protection, but used cheap standard foam underneath. That combo worked well. The outer ones didn't lower the decibels enough and then having an amplified speaker to raise voices enough to hear them with foams in worked decently.
There is a myth that older folks don't lose hearing after about 25 years old. Truth is you can always lose some hearing at any age, but it is most noticeable on younger since they lose hearing the most in higher frequencies. It sickens me to hear cars with loud stereo blaring only to see a child's car seat in the back. Their selfish shortsightedness is causing long term hearing damage to their young ones.

savoy6The Peltor TEP-100 has worked ok for me. The price seems to have went way up but if you shop around I think they can be found for about $200.

sjtillI have the Ottos and the Axils. Much prefer the Ottos, even though they don't have the fancy features. Wit the Comply tips, they fit well, aren't likely to fall out--my main concern with in-ear protection.
