No, I didn't shoot my truck. While carrying my P220-10 Stainless Elite the razor sharp corners of the target sights tore into the paint just behind the drivers door as I was hoisting myself in. Not once, not twice but three times. I noticed the first two scratches (lower two) and it took me a bit to figure out what caused them. Even though I had figured it out, I still managed to do it once more with the final scratch being the worst. Keep in mind these were all done through cover garments.

So, these are pretty deep, especially the last one. Any suggestions for touching these up on the cheap?

Those are pretty ugly. If you want to go the touchup route I recommend www.automotivetouchup.com where you can get color and clear. I usually get a pen and brush on container in both color and clear. It works really well for small nicks but I think you could paint it in those cracks. Several coats of color to build it up then clear. If you feel capable, lightly sand the edges where the color flowed onto the panel CAREFULLY. Prep with alcohol and possibly very light sanding at the edges before applying any paint. Otherwise you are looking at painting and blending the panel.

Touch-up paint pen. I think Dupli-Color makes them.

I've since sold off my P220-10 holsters so I'm not tempted to carry that SOB again, at least until I get those sights chamfered.

If you can live with the scratches, clear nail polish to keep them from rusting and let it be.

Might be worth putting some similar scratches in the bed of the truck and practicing on those.

Those are deep, looks like down to the primer.

I would do a nice little DIY driveway job on that. Sand, prime, paint, clear. Find a local auto body supply, they'll be able to make you a 'bomb' of the factory paint (aerosol) and hook you up with the rest of what you need (clear, prep spray, sandpaper etc)

Just pay attention to the weather and keeping clear of contamination and it can work out.

This is my work truck, not my own. Budget stops at $20 for me.

Work truck & $20 budget, get some touchup paint & DIY. Then no more scratching it.

Firearm in the work truck??? That has to be nice. My employer doesn't even allow them in personal vehicles in the parking lot.

Yeah, for $20, I'd get some auto store touch up paint and DIY.

I have a small business. Really small. No full-time employees, a few part-timers. Just about every one of my part-time helpers, and many (most?) of the other people who come in, pack heat. Of those who don't carry all the time, almost all are permit holders, and some of the non-permit holders enjoy shooting but just haven't gotten around to getting a permit for various reasons.

One guy who does own a bunch of firearms doesn't carry and won't get a permit because he does not want any government entity to have any paperwork associating him with firearms. No, he's not a felon, he is legally OK to own firearms, he just doesn't want the government meddling in his life.
