Interesting question - wondering what triggered it. Not an expert but my perception is that protocol layers like TCP/IP is not affected by the PHY layer (ie - fiber vs wire). Yes with a VOIP phone interface using my AT&T 1 gig fiber. I found that it is easier for me to use a internet fax service such as Fax Plus. I have to fax documents to IRS and Fax Plus is more reliable. I use a Brother MFC-L5800DW to scan. __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! Sigs Owned - A Bunch

Most VoIP "lines" (like those terminated by an ATA), you cannot just plug a fax modem into and expect it to work. However, there are any number of fax-enabling services available. Typically, you'd send an e-mail with a PDF or other representation of the document you want faxed to an e-mail address that processes it into an actual fax transmission. Details vary by provider. Back in the 80's and 90's I was associated with TPC.INT, an experimental free service run by volunteers. This link is to an archived version of the now defunct service's website. It was a very interesting experiment, both technically, and as an example of the general usefulness of the Internet's ability to make something ubiquitous at a cost a mere fraction of current practice at the time (phone bills for International faxing and calling were enormous).

I have not had to send a fax for years. Windows has a build in fax app. I have used that in the past. You can also download iFax App from the Microsoft store. You can fax with a MagicJack, but faxing is not officially supported and it is not guaranteed, It had not worked every time. Somtimes it could not connect to the receiving fax machine.

For occasional document faxing, you can download Genius Scan to your iPhone, it will take pictures of documents, scale the picture to it so there is no background, convert to a PDF and you can email or fax from the app. You will need Genius Fax to send the fax from your phone to any fax machine. Or, you can subscribe to a email to fax service, and then use the scanned PDF from the app, or, your printer to e-fax documents. For my office I use Ring Central, it gives me inbound/outbound e-fax services, all documents inbound are converted to PDFs, for outbound I can send PDF, Word etc right from outlook. www.ringcentral.com There is a monthly fee based on volume and you can get a phone line included with the basic package as well if you want. Used it for probably 10 years without issue, using it will eliminate the need to have a fax machine in your office, you can use your printers scan feature to create a PDF on the desktop then use Outlook to E-fax it anywhere in the world.
