Kroger going "all self checkout"???
I use self checkout at Dillon's (owned by Kroger) quite often, the store I frequent finally added the same type of scan guns that Walmart uses.

And meanwhile Aldi has zero self-checkout machines.

I predict Kroger will be out of business in two years.
Pure nonsense. Aldi is a limited selection grocery store, and mine typically only has one cashier and zero self-checkout so quite a line. Kroger is a full blown supermarket with infinitely more variety and the Kroger by me has a produce section larger than the entire Aldi store. People will keep coming back for the variety and selection, and will learn to live with the self checkout.

I live about halfway between two Publix stores. One of them has opened a self-checkout area in addition to the attended registers. This area is staffed by one or two clerks, who are quick to jump in if there's any sort of problem.

I'm not a big fan of self check-out, but it's nice to have the option, especially if I only have a few items and there's no wait for a self-service station.

Yesterday I used one at the local Publix. It is convenient for fewer items for me, but if I have a shit load, I'd rather have it rung up for me and bagged. It's a convenient addition, but definitely not a full replacement.

I see these cute little Kroger home delivery trucks running around.

One of my employees uses that service; says its great. They deliver in evenings when she's home from her long commute.

Edited to add: I asked. She says the item prices are competitive with in store pricing.
I've not verified this claim independently.

There's a reasonable sign up fee.

We use it, did use it regular, especially during COVID, it is very well run, the drivers are employees of Kroger not some third party local service company, they are clean professional and polite. If you decide you like it you can pay an annual fee that gets you free delivery and it's a value.

Plus the Kroger plastic bags are super nice, thicker great for reuse.
