A moment of silence please and reflection for those that served and or were wounded or killed on D Day.

My wife’s grandfather and grand uncle were both part of the 802nd Tank Destroyer battalion that landed in Normandy 10 days after the initial invasion. One of my regrets in life is never sitting with her grandfather and hearing or recording his story. We were told not to talk about the war as it triggered nightmares and by the time I had the courage to do so, he was in the beginning stages of dementia. Her grand uncle was a badass making a career out of the Army serving in Korea as well before retiring as a Major. He was laid to rest in Arlington in 2011.

My wife's uncle was a Higgins boat driver at Omaha Beach. He'd drop off load after load of healthy soldiers but once the battle was joined, would make each return trip with a boat full of wounded or dead.

One of the best things I have ever watched is called "The Masters of the Air" on Apple TV. Don't be put off by the fact that it was coproduced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. It is truly superb.

Yes, there is a reason the National D Day Memorial is in Bedford and not Washington DC.

Why would that put anyone off...? After all, Spielberg and Hanks are also responsible for Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and The Pacific, three of the best WW2/D-Day-related productions ever made.
