Gonna' be on a cruise next month to the eastern Mediterranean. Looking for a comfortable, secure bag to carry my Nikon D7100, extra lens, water bottle and a few small necessities. I've had an M-Rock holster bag for years and while it works, the strap/harness system really isn't all that comfortable for all day wear.

So once again consulting the all knowing body of knowledge that is SigForum...

I have had a bunch of camera bags over the years.

My personal favorites are the Think Tank Photo Retrospective series messenger bags (I have two sizes, a small one for micro four thirds stuff and a big one for full frame DSLR stuff) and the Peak Design Everyday Messenger and Everyday Backpack. None of them really look like camera bags but they all work very, very well. They're also at the very high end of camera bag price ranges.

If I am traveling and taking minimal gear I love the LowePro AW backpacks. I think I have a 150 or 200 that I use and it is perfect for Body with 1-3 lenses and flash, batteries etc...

This is very much like asking what the best holster for your gun is. Different tastes and needs dictate different solutions.

I have a Nikon D7100 too, with several lenses, flash, charger, etc. For the past two or three years I've been using a ThinkTank Airport Essentials backpack/carry bag, and it suits me perfectly. Not only can I carry my camera and all the extras, but also my Macbook Air, iPad Air and the assorted cables and chargers for them, too. All in a package that neatly fits under the airline seat in front of me.

For a range of ideas, try Think Tank, Domke or Billingham.

Billingham is expensive(buy once, cry once) but well thought out and looks good despite abuse. Domke is softer but comfortable and also easy to work out of. Think Tank I had the most trouble working out of. TT stuff is very well made and thought out and I have and have had many of their offerings. Most work brilliantly.

I'd try eBay to get a decent price on used.

I like TT but I love my Billingham. I only wish I'd gotten it sooner.

I ended up with a backpack that is designed for both camera equipment and a laptop (I carried a very light laptop) for the trip I took 3 years ago to England with my father for his World War II reunion. It worked very well for me.

I have a backpack camera 'case', can't recall the name of it. Mindshift Panorama? It's about the size of a school backpack. It fits a 2l water bladder, has a top compartment that will fit snacks, a rain jacket, etc. The kicker is there is a smaller pouch that fits in the lower section for your camera and lenses. You can basically rotate it out of the pack and to your front.

If you're interested, email me your mailing address. I'll send it to you if you want to try it out.

Oh yes, it is the Mindshift....

I just got a tenba dna 13 and really like it. It is a messenger bag but has a wide padded strap. It has clips on the front that have to be slid left to open, makes it fairly secure. It would hold what you are describing.

I really like my Clik Elite backpack but doesn't look like they make it anymore.

This is what I have. Fits a camera and extra lens or two in a padded section. You can drop it off one shoulder and get the camera out easy. Something I really. Has a small top section for lunch and a jacket of anything else.

Crumpler bags are wonderful. I have three. Check out a seven million dollar home on eBay. Lots of colors. The three million dollar home holds a camera and spare battery and sd cards.

I recently purchased a Nikon D5500 and I also picked up a Lowepro Photo Hatchback 22L AW Backpack at the same time.

It has plenty of room for the camera and lens, and a small telephoto lens in the camera bag area, with room for another lens or two. It also holds a tablet, desktop tripod, filter pouch with 3 filters, my small point and shoot Nikon I used for work pictures, extra batteries and charger and I still have room for one or two things I haven't figured out yet.

Eastern Mediterranean sounds like camera theft territory--at least it was for me a long time ago in Istanbul.
I recommend NOT having a bag that looks like a camera bag; better a backpack IMO.

My most comfortable and handy bag is a LowePro Sling bag, it is moderately good in situations where thievery is likely because you can quickly pull it in front of you.
It's not very stuffable though if it has to go under an airline seat.

I have one of the newer LowePro "tactical" messenger bags and it is more workable for traveling but not as handy for photographic use.

I have the predecessor to the Tamrac "Anvil" bag. Mine is the Tamrac "Expedition 7" which easily holds two DSLR bodies, and my super zoom to wide angle lenses, with filters, flash units, and other stuff.

This bag also has a laptop compartment.

71, I have one of these that you are welcome to. I don't use it anymore. It holds 3 lenses and 2 bodies. It does not hold a h2o bottle though.

If you are interested, let me know.
