For me, it's always been a day to remember those who have fallen - and made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Veterans Day is to say "Thank You".

Australia's Anzac Day is for honoring and remembering the fallen at Gallipoli.

Good Grief.

What am I supposed to do? I'm not allowed to cook the steaks I picked up? I need to call family and tell them, "sorry guys, were remembering here." I can't watch TV, because ad people might gain?

EVERY VETERAN I KNOW, celebrates and does "American" things on Memorial Day, they drink one for the one who didn't come home. We live, love, fight, and stir shit up all in their honor.

We live because they gave it all. And we must live. That is kind of the point.

I wish essays like this would actually draw a line, not just mindlessly guilt us because we are alive. Where is the line? Do I put ash on my head, and wear torn clothes? Do I fast from all food and water? Oh, lets really piss people off, let me post guilt inducing memes everywhere.

I do have one veteran friend he hates people saying "thank you for your service". See for him, every damn day is memorial day. However, I just checked. He is having a big BBQ at his house. To celebrate life, to celebrate his friends that did not come back. We will have a beer in their honor. We will talk of them and we will do all we can to not forget.

Tomorrow I will have slow roasted massive American Potatoes, 2" Ribeye from here in Virginia, and some local brewed beer. And I will remember my uncle, great grandfather, cousins, students, friends. I will call my veteran friend to see how they are doing, remind them I love them and care for them and see if they need anything.

Doraville, GA (northern suburb of Atlanta) acknowledges special occasions such as this by putting up flags and cross markers with names of residents of city who have lost their lives in military service.

Gary Sinise hosted a good program on PBS last night. Always appreciate his support of vets.

Thanks to all who served. I had relatives in many of the wars down to Vietnam. Interesting to find info on some who were in Revolutionary War, War of 1812, etc. I was in during Vietnam (1958-1970), but didn't have to go. They didn't need programmers in SE Asia. I was attached to the 1st Air Commando Wing at England AFB LA in mid-60's. They had guys over there all the time on rotation. They were flying prop jobs in support. Some that I knew didn't come back. I spent my last 3 years on instructor duty at Sheppard AFB TX. Got out and went to work in compiler support for the company that provided AF base systems.

Yeah, you're not allowed to cook steaks, cause that was the whole gist of the article. Roll Eyes

Talk about missing the point.

Where's the eff-ing park police?
You go to Rome's Trevi Fountain and other fountains, there's a LOT of tourists and a good chunk of them are trying to do stupid things. There's several police assigned to each location, blowing their whistles left & right getting people to get out of the fountain, get off the railings, clogging pathways.

Lemme guess. Chasing El Salvadorans, Barry Sotero's beloved "Paahkistahnis," and Dominican Republic-types out of our WW2 memorial fountain would be racist.

Did you read my post or just pick a favorite phrase? I am just protesting the 'guilt' society we have to live with now. I should feel guilty because [insert object here]
