After some sticker shock of $7000 for a mid level gas insert, I now think an electric insert may be more my speed and price.

However in my brief research I found prices from $500-4000+. It’s to the point now where everything is disposable and I could replace the low end insert how many times before I reach the price of a high end.

With that in mind I am thinking about staying in the lower end and would like to keep it around a $1500 budget.

Are there any brands to look at or any to stay away from?

About 5 years ago we did this exact thing, the original LP fireplace never worked well and it rusted out internally.

Replacement was about $5K, I was about to remove it and build a new TV cabinet but found an electric by Heat n Glo for $1200 and had my guy that does handy work install it. The old fireplace had an electric fan so we converted the 110 to a plug and this unit can be hard wired or plug.

We use it all the time it looks absolutely realistic and you can get it with 110/240v heater built in. There are different settings, blue, red, darker background etc

Is this for looks/ambiance only or are you trying to heat with it as well?

75% looks 25% heating. I understand the majority of these are glorified space heaters and if it just take the chill out of the air on a cold night that’s fine with me.

It will take the chill out, mines 110 so it's not a serious heater, then again, I'm in Florida...

If you want it to toss out some heat get the 240v unit and have it wired accordingly and it will do a much better job.

Some of the models come with a speaker and sounds that are pretty realistic. We didn't do that and should have.

My wife wanted it. It has a heat function, but is plugged into a 15amp 120v outlet. Her chair will be 20’ feet away and the ceiling between the electric fireplace and her chair is at least 22’ high. She doesn’t believe me that it’s not going to provide any heat she can feel. It doesn’t even look good. My mistake for not going with her to the store to see it myself.

I can just pipe it through a soundbar from my iStuff...

We love our gas insert, dog is a big fan of the heat.
