I just had a phone call from myself--name and phone number in Caller ID. I didn't answer it. I am curious about it, of course, but not enough to answer the call.

"Phone scams have always been problematic, but they’re getting worse.

What makes these scam callers so brazenly confident they can steal your money, personal identity, and precious time? The answer is simple – they know it’s nearly impossible to get caught.

Scam callers have possessed the ability to call your phone from masked numbers since the introduction of phone spoofing, the practice of tricking a phone network into thinking the originator of the call is from a location other than its actual location. And these spoofed callers are getting smarter.

The most common spoofing-based scam is neighbor spoofing. Using this technique scammers change their caller ID so that it appears that the call is coming from a local phone number. The area code and prefix of the incoming call match your phone’s area code and prefix, in an effort to make you think the call is from someone you know. These unwanted callers have even at times become so brazen as to attempt to scam their targets by calling them from their own phone number! Who knew these crooks could be so innovative?

While the latest spoofing trends will always come and go, one underlying fact remains – scammers don’t care about your personal privacy and will stop at nothing to steal from you. And they’ll continue to do so because it’s still so easy and nearly consequence-free."

I have gotten several of these calls.
The caller ID for my home phone comes up on my TV and the call was from my home phone number.
I have gotten calls with a 000-000-0000 or country code numbers.
I have also gotten emails from from someone using my email address.
Not sure how they do it but it is annoying.
I do not answer any of my phones unless I recognize the number calling.
I let it go to voicemail.

I never answer my phone unless I recognize the number and if I get a call from the same number twice and they don't leave a voicemail I block the number. If its not a scammer it's some idiot begging for money or someone else wanting to waste my time.

Don't answer it. These numbers only come up on Caller ID if you divide by zero.

Had the same thing happen to me a few times.

They spam based on your location...I can go to my bird hunting club which is a couple of hours away and then return home at the end of the weekend and, BOOM, all of a sudden I start getting spam calls from locals and cities which are near the hunting club.

I have gone out to look for myself.

If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait for me.

I know everyone doesn’t have the time of the inclination, but I like to answer and just waste their time.
Every minute they are on the phone with me is another minute they are not bothering my nearly 80 year old, mostly shut in mother.
Sometimes it’s a long story about how, as a Jerry Lee Lewis impersonator, I wound up as a burn victim.
Or I’ll just launch into my collard green recipe.
One fella finally gave me a good cursing after I just repeated “NUMBAH PLEASE” every time he started to talk.
The last few times I’ve acted genuinely concerned about their mental health, what with all the rejection they have to deal with in their job.
A couple of them I’ve actually wound up having a real conversation.

Still doesn’t make me think and more highly of them.
