This is the third in Tennessee to open next week. I can see many possible problems. https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projec...oad-interchange.html __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! Sigs Owned - A Bunch

Put one in near me. No big deal but then we still have people that can't figure out a roundabout.

There's something like that in College Station, TX. Very odd if you're unfamiliar The Enemy's gate is down.

They work, I personally think they are genius. Really keep traffic flowing.

They work well once everyone gets used to them. We have a couple and are doing at least one more. The amount of collisions in those intersections have been reduced dramatically. I was skeptical when we first got them. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. I can't tell form the picture. But I'm assuming where Buckner Rd. crosses lanes is actually an overpass/underpass setup so traffic never stops. I take it that this setup has a smaller footprint than a traditional cloverleaf interchange. Is that correct?

I think a lot of it is the timing of the traffic signals at the entry and exit. We've got one here in Anchorage that seems to flow fairly well. Typically if you have to stop at the signal at the entry it is timed so that there's typically a green light at the exit. There's one in Phoenix close to my old house that does not flow well at all. it replaced an interchange that had round a bouts at the entry and exit. Lights are not timed at all. Wait for a light change at the entrance only to get stopped again at the exit. My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

Just like with roundabouts, more are coming. I’ve been through that one in College Station, and I’ve been through the ones they put in in San Marcos and New Braunfels, as well as some other places I’ve driven through. I don’t like them since they take away the quick U-turn. Now, have to sit through a light before you can make one. Retired Texas Lawman

Yes! We have one and I wish they'd change them all over. They work so much better than the old method. “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. Mencken

I've seen people who can't figure out a 4-way stop and who don't know what to do when traffic lights are flashing red.

They started in Springfield MO and they work well. State Hwy 13 on the North side was always backed up 2 miles because of the Hwy 13/I 44. Since the install very few backups. Engineers from all over were coming and watching. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

That’s pretty wild and would vapor lock up half the drivers on the road here in PA. You should see them on the ever-increasing traffic circles sprouting up here everywhere. Literally half those people panic every damn time they see one.

Awaits his CUT of choice |
Except they put one in at the Shrewsbury exit on 83 in PA and it works like a charm. No major traffic incidents or major backups because people can't figure it out. When you are in one of these interchanges it is painfully obvious where you need to go even though it is a paradigm shift from what we are used to.

There's one like this not far from here. I wqs skeptical for so many reasons as they were building it. Turns out it's surprising easy to navigate (although admittedly a bit odd the first time or two through.) I'm not familiar with any problems with it in the few years it's been open. --------------------------------------

Both cross points are traffic light controlled. As someone else alluded to, usually once the traffic light at your entry point is green and you cross over the light on the other end is green as well so you can continue straight or make your turn on to whatever freeway or road you are passing over. I know of 3 here in Minnesota that I have used, there may be more though. I agree with others who said that they do flow smoothly once people are used to them.

Woke up today.. Great day! |
Becoming very common in Chicagoland. Didn’t like them at first but they DO flow better. My only beef is the twisting lanes as you enter and exit. Wouldn’t want to be surprised by one of these if I were speeding that’s for sure.

No More Mr. Nice Guy |
Lots of tourists around here who can barely navigate staying in their own lane! Looking at scenery, lost, spouse yelling vague instructions at them, looking at their cell phone gps map. Traffic circles are seriously dangerous. For people who commute daily, yeah I can see how the diverging diamond or other creative intersection is no big deal. But for those who rarely or never see them, they're a hazard.

The diverging diamond is OK, but if we're going to get serious about it, we should implement the Crouching Tiger.

At Jacob's Well |
They are more efficient and safer than a traditional interchange. There’s one in Branson that I use more days than not, and it’s very rare to have any kind of mishap. The occasional confused driver slowing down to figure out what’s happening is about as bad as it gets. We have 3.5 million tourists coming through every year, many of them elderly. If diverging diamonds were going to cause mayhem, believe me, we’d see it in Branson. There are more accidents at the traditional interchanges than at the diamond. Give me diverging diamonds and roundabouts over traditional intersections any day of the week. J Rak Chazak Amats

Thank you Very little |
Want to be super efficient, lift one direction of traffic over the other so there are zero stops at each end of the bridge for flow through traffic, a fly over for one direction. There are a few places here that would benefit from such a design, although it would probably take 4 years to build the dang thing.. Found an animation of the DDI...
