Beside the point. The point is the Constitution is being trampled to save us from a virus that most everyone will survive anyways. And th e abuses will get worse.

Some people are ignoring it because of the media “you don’t get it it’s not the flu we’re all going to die” hype.

The Constitution is already being trampled by requiring a permit to purchase a gun- 14th A violation IMO.

IN Florida over the weekend I visited FGE in Ormond, business was popping and they were quoting over 2 hours to get FDLE verifications back, not from lack of staff, from too many sales going on state wide....

However there are going to be more of these type of problems, government offices closing, getting certifed death certificates, closing documents, plots, anything you need to do a financial transaction will be impacted...

Background checks in PA overwhelmed the system - it crashed yesterday:

State Police Issue Statement on Pennsylvania Instant Check System for Firearm Purchases
Posted on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 by Gant Team in Local News

HARRISBURG – Major Gary Dance, director of the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Records and Identification, released the following statement Wednesday on the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS).

“Technology challenges and a surge in requests resulted in PICS twice going offline on March 17, 2020. An isolated server issue was responsible for the morning outage from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The second outage happened between 5 p.m. and 8:40 p.m., due to a backlog of requests.

“Despite the downtime, PICS completed 4,342 transactions on March 17, compared to 1,359 transactions on the corresponding Tuesday in March 2019. Transactions include background checks for purchases, transfers, evidence returns and license to carry applications.

“The Pennsylvania State Police is working with its vendor to increase processing power to avoid future backlogs and will adjust staffing as needed to meet demand. Rumors circulating on social media that PICS has been shutdown as part of the commonwealth’s response to the COVID-19 epidemic are false. PICS is, and will remain, operational.

“We regret any inconvenience yesterday’s downtime caused to licensed firearm dealers and their customers.”

Background

The Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) is used by county sheriffs, chiefs of police of cities of the first class, and licensed firearms dealers in Pennsylvania to determine an individual’s legal ability to acquire a license to carry firearms or obtain a firearm through a purchase or transfer.

Established in 1998, PICS has been called a “model gun background check system” for the United States. PICS completed more than a million firearm background checks in 2018 via Interactive Voice Response (IVR) or a web-based platform. Most checks are completed automatically in a matter of minutes.

And dumber than dumb because in reality probably 95% of the people it's effecting already have pistol licenses and guns. Roll Eyes

Half my county has the same thing going on. I commented that's probably because they don't want to face crowds of people seeking pistol permits because they'd have to tell them "yes you can have a permit.. sometime next year."

Whats with registering your gun? Why would you do that?

I was at work one day, and a lady came into the lobby wanting to speak with an officer. I went out to speak with her, and she said she needed the paperwork to "register her guns." I asked her what she meant, and she explained that she was moving to the city from out of state (New Jersey I believe) and needed to get the registration forms. I informed her that we didn't do that in Kentucky. She acted like she didn't quite believe me and left a bit confused.

When I moved from New Jersey to Florida 20 years ago this is exactly what happened to me. I had to call the Florida Highway Patrol to make sure I would not get in trouble. The person told me we live in a free state and did not have to register our firearms. Than I found out about having a Concealed Carry permit and was almost in shock. Then they told me about the process on how to purchase a firearm compared to New Jersey. Once again I was told I had moved to a free state.

As of this afternoon Erie County permit office is closed at least through the end of the month. They have opened up amendments by mail so people can have their guns added to their permit by mail.
I'm an FFL and got an email yesterday from the NSSF, Monday's NIC's checks was an increase of 300% from the same time period 2019. NICS may experience delays as they can't keep up and delayed transactions will probably not be completed in three days as normal.

You mean its not like that everywhere? Whats with registering your gun? Why would you do that?

I remember a while back, maybe 15 or so years ago, when a poster on this or the other one Para owned, who was driving from NY to TX. He wanted to know what states he could have a hand gun in on his trip. So someone came in and said don't believe internet posters, call the state police in each state he was going to drive in. Sound advice.

So he called the KY state police. The guy answering the phone said sure, every one else here had one, why shouldn't you?

Guess the south starts at the Ohio River (owned by KY). It pays to be polite here. An armed society is a polite society. No, we wouldn't want you here, but you can move to FL or TX. Here, if a politician mentions gun control, we all just vote against him/her. Guess TX is turning blue because so many voters lack sense.
No, Texas is in danger of turning Blue because of all the Liberals flocking here from California and bringing their awful politics with them (and being overrun with illegal Mexicans who have no idea of true freedom and will vote--yes, some will--for the free stuff.)

In the old days...late 70's, you had to get permission from the Fairfax County Police to buy a pistol. You submitted a request with the make and model.

At the time, Herman Sporting Goods carried a lot of Smith Wesson's that were hard to find at other places. So when the M629 was announced, I put in an order which took about a year to get. The police request came back that they didn't think I needed it.

Since I owned land in Loudoun County, I had them ship the gun to a gun shop in Loudoun County and picked it up there.

WTF are you rambling about Texas for?
A Yankee in NY complains about his shitty gun laws and you drag my state into it?
My last firearm purchase, and sale, involved nothing more than a few questions, proof of state residency, an exchange of cash, and a handshake..

on our State Police Firearms Transaction Website today,

(we run background checks thru the state police)

ATTENTION ALL FFL DEALERS

Due to the increase in volume, hold times will be longer than normal.

Delay time on transaction may increase to 8 - 12 hours on average.

During this increase in volume, please adhere to the following:

1. Ensure your entries are complete and accurate prior to submitting through VCheck to minimize additional calls to the

office or changes to documentation.

2. Do not call the office or have your customers call to check on delays. Unnecessary calls will further delay the process

of transactions.

The Firearms Transaction Center is working diligently to maintain our services through the impact of the COVID-19 virus. We are aware that some states may consider options to protect the health and safety of their employees which may include a reduction in office availability or even office closures. Please rest assured we will be operational.

Should Virginia choose to close state offices or shut down the courts, this could potentially impact the unauthorized release date by changing the time in which an FFL can legal transfer a firearm without an approval number. We urge all dealers to be cognizant of the impact this may have on your day to day operations, and also stress the importance of adhering to the unauthorized release date provided to you at the time a transaction is placed in a delayed status

Coronavirus: San Jose orders gun store to close in one of first enforcement against businesses open under shelter order

Willow Glen gun shop stayed open, then ordered closed, with modest fanfare; police say they focused on warnings and education for suspected violations of stay-at-home order

By ROBERT SALONGA | rsalonga@bayareanewsgroup.com | Bay Area News Group
PUBLISHED: March 18, 2020 at 2:48 p.m. | UPDATED: March 19, 2020 at 8:37 a.m.

SAN JOSE — As Bay Area business owners navigated the labyrinthine rules of the sweeping shelter-in-place order implemented Monday, many gun dealers across the region opted to stay open this week, amid a spike in sales apparently driven by fears over the coronavirus pandemic.

But after customers lined up around gun stores in several counties Tuesday — including outside the Bullseye Bishop in San Jose — San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo declared that “gun stores are non-essential.”

“We are having panic buying right now for food,” Liccardo said Wednesday. “The one thing we cannot have is panic buying of guns.”

Law enforcement officials confirmed Wednesday that they shut down the Bullseye Bishop with little fanfare, in one of the first enforcement actions taken in San Jose on the initial day of the shelter-in-place order.

“We went out there and closed it,” San Jose police Chief Eddie Garcia said, adding that the owner was cooperative.

Two people who picked up the phone at Bullseye Bishop declined to answer questions from a reporter, repeating that the store is “closed to the public for the next three weeks.”

Outside the shop, San Jose painting contractor Joshua Wolfe, 37, who was buying ammo, said he believed the gun store had every right to remain open.

“Essential? It’s our right to arm ourselves,” Wolfe said. “Toilet paper is essential, right? People are going nuts for that, right?”

Everyone is “on edge,” he said, “because people don’t know the truth of this whole situation. If they’re short on supplies, they’ll come after people who are prepared.”

J.V. Sumabat, 31, of San Jose said he was worried about the same thing.

“I’ve seen people fighting over toilet paper. I’m worried what they will do out of desperation,” he said. “When people start looting stores and they don’t have access to food, they could come into the homes of those they feel are vulnerable. I’d rather be prepared.”

Garcia said the owner of the store had told officers the business remained open because, under regulations from the California Department of Justice, they are limited in how long they can hold firearms that had already been purchased, and the buyers had to pick them up.

“We told them to go to DOJ and seek a waiver,” Garcia said. “There was no malicious intent. A lot of this stuff is going to happen.”

The gun shop closure was one of a handful of other enforcement actions by SJPD on Tuesday, including similar shutdown talks with three smoke shops, a pet grooming business and a flower shop, none of which resulted in citations. Officers also broke up a pickup basketball game at a city park, reportedly telling the participants they weren’t abiding by social distancing advisories with man-to-man defense.

Law-enforcement agencies throughout the Bay Area have said they will lean toward giving warnings and education people about the sheltering order and that issuing misdemeanor citations — the maximum legal heft to punish violations — will be used as a last resort.

Even so, Garcia said his department has assigned patrol units to be on the lookout for visible and obvious violations of the business and gathering prohibitions, like a bar staying open or a house party being held.

“We’re not turning a blind eye,” Garcia said. “We’re not proactively stopping cars and people, but if non-exempt businesses are open and we get calls, we’ll look into it.”
