New technology to detect concealed weapons
Interesting technology arriving to detect concealed weapons. If this goes mainstream, it may be difficult to carry with the belief that we are the only ones that know.

Interesting. At the same time other Tech companies are developing plans to defeat the new system. If it helps get rid of TSA I am all for it.

I expect it will be expensive enough that only major venues will install it. Your local Stop'n'rob probably won't do it.

Flir had a system that uses a thermal camera to scan a crowd of people to find concealed firearms. It uses thermal differences and is probably a much cheaper solution. And from what I have seen it works well.

Me: "Are you not?"

Meh nothing to see here. I'll just buy some metal foil, wrap it around my waistline where my J-frame is, and be done with it.

These guys are back, with all the hype that goes with pumping one's stock for financial reasons -- they need investors.

Their FCC filing has a lot of information: https://ecfsapi.fcc.gov/file/1...quest%20(5-8-19).pdf

the HEXWAVE transmitter operates in the following spectrum blocks:

• 6.0-6.6 GHz
• 6.6-7.2 GHz
• 7.2-7.8 GHz
• 7.8-8.4 GHz
• 8.4-9.0 GHz
• 9.0-9.6 GHz
• 9.6-10.2 GHz
• 10.2-10.6 GHz

Radioman note: Typical UWB frequencies. Nothing magical about it. Because these bands are shared, the power for UWB is very low, and therefore easy to jam/block.

Extra credit for the techie types who know what resolution can be had under heavy clothing several meters away at 6 to 10 GHz based on the wavelength of these bands. I think it ain't good. False alarms galore!!!!!!

If I thought this thing would work, then I'd build a jammer in an afternoon.

trust me guys, unless they are willing to pull a lot of people aside, airport style, there's nothing to worry about. metal foil is your friend. For extra credit carry some RF absorptive material, or jam the shit out of it with your own transmitter.

These frequencies are NOT x-ray. There is no projection through your body. Ain't gonna happen.

This must be why some people stash their guns in their prison purse. Keeps the temperature differential to a minimum.

A fast draw from the prison purse is difficult and can be fairly unpleasant for everyone around.

T-Ray Technology has been in place in some areas since 2013. The New York City Police Department has had these radiation scanners capable of identifying concealed weapons from a distance. the scanners are small enough to be installed in police vans or on notoriously violent street corners, thereby allowing police to identify carriers of illegal guns without going through the traditional pat-down procedure.

Developed in conjunction with the London Metropolitan Police, the devices are designed to pick up on the terahertz radiation naturally emitted by both humans and inanimate objects. Anything blocking that radiation — including a gun — will be prominently highlighted.

Some 5/3 Banks have some sort of technology maybe just metal detector I don’t know.
You enter the exterior door into a little pod before actually entering the bank. It senses something it locks both doors (technically unlawful in my view if you have not robbed the bank or done anything else illegal).
I walked right on in carrying a G27 with no issues and did my banking. On the way out was a different story.
Locked me in that pod a light and siren started. Looked at the tellers all were just sort of frozen I was signaling for them to open the exterior door so I could leave and they refused.
After a minute or so or politely asking for them to unlock the exterior door I was still locked in the pod.
At this point I am pretty pissed as I am trying to exit and being held against my will.
I then began to give some pretty solid kicks to the crash bar. After about 5 kicks they exterior door was unlocked.
I called 5/3 corporate and explained the situation they said it was a test location. I said it failed as I was able to enter the bank with zero issue. Yet it locked me in the pod preventing me from leaving. In my situation I had done nothing illegal nor been suspected to f doing anything illegal but by hindering me from leaving the store employees were in fact committing the crime of f unlawful imprisonment.
It is one thing to lock the door to gain entry to the bank lobby or to lock someone in the pod after they have in fact robbed the bank or done some other sort of illegal activity.
But preventing a law abiding citizen from being able to leave is a big time problem.

I no longer bank with 5/3.

certain government buildings have been using something like that for years. I can guarantee you the White House does.... oops, I hope they don't read this..... I think I might have promised not to reveal such back in 2006.

I would imagine the first time some innocent person has an experience like Black, and gets locked into one causing a medical emergency, and the bank or other institution gets the pants sued off of them they would reconsider their use.
