She's looking to get into something like data entry. Something she can do from home without having to be tied to a phone due to our 3.5 year old.

Any suggestions?

She doesn't have a degree, if that makes a difference. Hasn't worked in over 5 years so there's a long employment gap.

Look into medical billing/coding.

My wife's ob/gyn practice has 2 or 3 people who work from home that handle the billing.

What type of education/certification is needed for that?

She's going to start some sort of schooling either this fall or in January 2020. Long story of why but that's her timeline.

You should be able to search on one of the job boards (Indeed, Monster, Glassdoor, etc.) for work from home data entry jobs. Some may only require a high school diploma.

My niece lives in GA and answers the phone to make appointments for a spa business in CA. She has to stay up late to do it, but I suppose it would work for any business in any state if they are set up with sufficient internet appointments/calendars software...

The calls ring to her cell phone, so she is able to "do business" from anywhere for the most part. When we were visiting my mom, the niece was taking calls periodically from my mom's house. She would just get up and walk to an empty bedroom and take the call.

Look up Hilton Hotels. I think they have been hiring customer service/reservations folks.
Most of the work from home ad's from third parties are likely scams of some sort.

The ATF tightened down on that several years ago. They want new 01 FFL applicants to have a true business storefront, with regular business hours, and all the associated business licensing, zoning, etc. too. That's all verified by the ATF in person before a license is approved.

This is not exactly at at home buisness.

Since 2013 there has been a huge rise in female concealed carry permit holders, and female first time firearms purchasers. Most have a prefference for a female basic instructor. I know that there are several in central va, and several in northern va that focus strictly on female clients.

be really careful with at home job offers, there are a lot of scams.
If they require a start up fee, or say they're sending you a check to cover "home office expenses".... RUN.

My mom was a medical transcriptionist. I don't recall it being very lucrative, but it helped. I'm not even sure how one would get into it now, but I am sure there is a need.

Trying not to pry, but what's her highest educational accomplishment, what sort of skills does she have, computer, other office equipment, phone? That might better help people here evaluate potential opportunities.

Earlier this month, Amazon officially Opens a New Window. announced its plans for the hiring spree of customer service associates, a role that pays $15 an hour and provides health care coverage after 90 days of employment.

However, according to its posting Opens a New Window. , the only caveat is that the worker must live in one of the following states in order to be considered: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

FlexJobs senior career specialist Brie Reynolds said the announcement is "one of the bigger single hiring pushes" they have ever seen for remote jobs.

"In these roles, customer service associates will work 100 percent from home assisting customers mainly by phone, with some chat and email assistance as well," Reynolds told FOX Business.

She added that it's important for interested applicants to showcase their previous customer service experience in their application, but that doesn't necessarily mean call center experience either.

"Any experience you've had interacting with clients, customers, or the public where you've been able to communicate well and be helpful can count. You'll also want to make sure to highlight your ability to work really well under pressure and in very fast-paced environment, and any previous work-from-home experience you have," she said.

Additionally, Amazon noted that it is also looking for people who are flexible with their hours. In the post, it states its looking for people commited to work when its customers "need us the most," which will include mornings, afternoons, evenings and typically one or both weekend days.

"Being available to work a flexible schedule that falls within our operating hours is required and expected," the company said.

Amazon also said it provides paid mandatory training and resource for new associates.

FlexJobs said the hiring spree is expected to last several weeks and in addition to the customer service associates, it is also looking for other remote positions that include technical account manager, migration lead and security consultant, to name a few.

Amazon Hiring at home workers

Good luck to you.

I’m sure being from Florida there is a ton of medical billing opportunities. The problem will be that she will have to go to the office until she is proficient.

You have to know a ton of stuff and be certified for a coding job. They also pay much better.
