The officer was shot several days ago and his condition is not improving. He and his partner responded to a domestic violence call, the person in the apartment across the hall opened the door and fired on them when they arrived. He was not involved in the original dispute but was shot and killed by the officers. The injured officer sustained a gunshot to the head in the incident.

There is now question about he wasn't transported the Level 1 Trauma center that was closer to the shooting scene.

That is a horrific situation on many levels. To be shot by someone not even involved in the initial call is bad enough.

Then there is the issue of why the officer was not taken to Henry Ford despite its being closer.

The ambulance company's CEO's statement about distance vs time rings hollow to me. Especially given that in the next breath, he states that Detroit PD gave his ambulance a sizable escort. That alone should have compensated for any distance vs time issues.

His statement about receiving little guidance on which hospital to transport to rings hollow as well.

Anyone sustaining a GSW to the head should be transported to the nearest level one trauma center whenever feasible.

Best wishes to the wounded officer. Hopefully, Detroit PD will reach an understanding with those providing EMS in Detroit as to how and where injured officers should be transported in the future.

I too have been waiting to hear some good news about this DPD Officer. I wonder why they didnot fly him to the Level 1 Trauma Center at the U-M Hospital as soon as he was stabilised. My neighbor who is a Neurosurgeon at U-M, told me that his surgical team was put on alert, but, the patient was never transported to the U-M Hospital.
Prayers are being sent out for the injured Officer and his family and for his partner and the entire DPD family. Lord knows how they work despite the horrible situation that they are put in.

Reading the linked article, it said that although there were closer hospitals, the travel time, considering the routes that had to be taken and traffic, was deemed to be fastest for the hospital where the wounded officer was taken.

I know nothing about Detroit streets nor traffic, so I have no idea whether that was a credible response or maybe a smoke-screen.

As Detroit deteriorates, things will only get worse.

Unemployment is 12 - 14% and the city is crumbling.
