Anyone into 3d printers here

ryan81986Anyone into 3d printers here
I've been organizing my garage/workshop lately and I purchased multiple Hillman hardware drawer/trays from my local hardware store that was expanding. Unfortunately, they came with none of the boxes on the inside. I found a 3d print file for organizers that drop directly into them. For the amount I need, and the amount it would cost to have someone print them for me, I figure it would be more cost effective to buy my own 3d printer.
We have a few at work and one of our tech guys highly recommended the Elegoo Centauri Carbon. It seems like a great machine, especially for a newbie. The only issue seems to be is the build plate max length is 256mm and the size I need is 266.7mm. Not a huge size different, but.
So my question is, does anyone know if it will accept a larger plate size? I've tried searching all over with no definitive answer that I can find.

vthokyI can help you get started, if you're in a rush. I've got at least one printer here that will handle a job that size... feel free to email me the STL, and I'll give it a shot.
That aside, I don't have any knowledge about the Elegoo units to share.
Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around.

sredingI've got a Centauri Carbon - just over 300 hours on it in the 2 months I've had it. The only failures were my fault (part orientation wrong in the slicer and I had supports off) due to being new. I've even designed and printed a few functional items that have worked great. I mostly print PETG and PETG-CF (this machine prints PETG-CF wonderfully), but also have gone through most of a roll of ASA and some other filaments that often give people trouble (glow in the dark for salmon flies and some wood PLA for projects for my wife).
With regards to the build plate size - it's defined by the max movement of the print head. While you might be able to get another mm or two I don't think you'll get 10mm. The magnetic bed does have raised 'lips' to properly center the plate so getting a plate that much larger would not fit without modifying the bed.
Can the part be oriented in a different direction that may allow it to print full size? Can it be split and joined after printing? If you want to send me the file I can see if I can get it to fit in the slicer. Feel free to email me at shawn_reding@hotmail.com if you'd like me to give it a try.

mark60I've got a BambuLabs A1, it's an open printer. I might have to look at the one you linked for printing other materials.
You mentioned needing more volume for your file. Maybe you can scale the file down the 10mm to fit and print spacers to fit the box.

PHPaulI've been 3D printing for several years, but almost ALL small stuff for models. Currently running a Bambu Labs A1 which was a BIG increase in quality and speed over my original Creality Ender 3.
Unless you spend BIG bucks, printing is slow. A 3x3x3 inch receptacle to fit in your drawers (just a guess at a representative size) would take several hours to print. Each.
From a standpoint of time and expense, I think you'd be better off to find something like
these in a suitable size.
Not to discourage you from 3D printing as a hobby, just that this job is not a great starting point.
Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Core XY printers (like the centauri carbon) are generally much faster than bed slingers (like the A1). Changes can be made in the slicer depending on strength requirements. I wouldn't expect drawer inserts/dividers needing to be that strong. 2 walls, 10% infill, could use a .6 nozzle. Depending on complexity and depth (layers) I don't think a box near the 256x256mm max size with the appropriate filament would take more than 4 hours on the centauri carbon. Add complexity to it or require supports and print time would definitely increase, but even if it takes 8 hours a drawer - the machine is doing the work while you're off living life. *shrug*
the main concern for me would be cost. If its costs more to print it than to buy one (assuming you could buy one exactly like you wanted) then it definitely wouldn't make sense - other than the satisfaction aspect of doing it yourself.

sredingRyan81986 - I think I found the insert you were looking at out on Cults3d - I put it in the elegoo slicer and scaled the x axis to 96% - 256mm (leaving the Y and Z at 100%).
using the most complex one (8 dividers) 2 walls, 10% infil - print time with Rapid PETG is 3.5 hours - uses 150grams of filament and costs about $1.90 ($13/kg for the filament I normally use). With 4 dividers print time is 2hours 45min and cost is $1.67.
FYI - you can lay it on it's side and print it at full size with supports. That will take 5.5 hours, using 224grams of filament for a total cost of $2.90
Feel free to contact me with any questions.

No rush at all on my end. That is very generous and thank you so much! I don't want to put you out though, If I fill all the drawers I bought it'll be a bunch of them.

ryan81986Hey all! I wound up buying the Centauri Carbon and it's great. I've definitely found a new addiction.

vthokyNice! Welcome to the crowd. You'll find all sorts of things to print.
Thingiverse, GrabCAD, and 3DContentCentral are the go-to sites around here.
