When I was a kid I used to enjoy building armor and aircraft models mostly from WWII, Korea and Vietnam. I found this photo of a Canadian tank commander who helped win the Battle of Hochwald just after D-day 1944. This photo shows a modeler's wet dream! Back, and to the left |
Yes. I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11 ...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

Back in the day we had to find a firefly resin turret and adapt it to the tamiya kit. Looks like there are more options these days, I say go for it!

Tamiya does actually make a 1/35th scale Firefly VC, which is not accurate for that photo. Pretty sure Dragon make a cast hull Firefly though. I'm not sure if Tamiya make a cast hull version of the Sherman.

I just got back into modeling. Needed a new hobby. Burnt out on reading, burnt out on games, burnt out on shooting. Just needed something I could kick back and enjoy in silence or maybe with some talk radio. Picked up an Iwata Eclipse airbrush last week, received a shipment of Mission Models paint, and for $20 bought the parts to turn my garage compressor into a model airbrush compressor. Blaming the crime on the gun, is like blaming a bad story on the pencil.

The "silence" with talk radio in the back ground eh? When I was a kid I had a compressor that generated a lot of condensation. Had to put an inline filter on it. One of the things that attracts me to this Sherman is it's one color so I won't need a compressor. I dug up my old Badger double action air brush a while back. Definitely was necessary for the old school Vietnam error tri-color fighter color scheme. I went to a hobby store recently (one I used to ride my bike to when I was a kid) and got two bottles of paint, a small bottle of thinner and a cheapie 3 pack brush pack from Testors and it was like $30!
