Our oldest daughter and wife are going there in spring time to look around. Our daughter has been accepted and offered a $14,000 a year scholarship for four years. It is still going to cost a pretty penny. Where is a decent place for them to stay when they go to tour the school and meet department heads? Our daughter will be in the dorm while attending there. What is the town like? Any real concerns for a girl’s safety? Thanks Roy Update: She has been studying engineering Mechanical and Chemistry. She liked Chemistry. She currently is in pre-Calculus and doing well. She is seeking either a Mechanical Engineering Field or Environmental Chemistry. She has interest in both currently. Wants to talk to departments heads to help finalize her choice. Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it! - John Steinbeck

The Boise - Nampa area is nice... really nice. I love that part of the world. She will be fine in that area. NNU is a liberal arts college and it isn't cheap, but you already know that. A big question is what does she want to major in? If it's a STEM career there are a lot of better schools.

Conveniently located directly above the center of the Earth |
I actually lived 2 blocks from their campus, 1968-69. Given that's a HALF a CENTURY ago, there may have been changes. The BIG controversy at the time, was the trouble a 'certain portion' of the class got into deeply, was in arranging for a rock n' roll band to play music on campus while some of the students actually DANCED...... yes, a portion of the community was in a dither. I grew up in Boise, then about 30 light years away from Nampa, but now virtually merged due to population swell. In the time I was there, the general public belief was the school focused largely on social and religious matters without much weight in the more rigorous hard sciences. No idea whether that has changed. There are a number of colleges in the area, including Boise State University with massive undergrad AND advanced degree choices in any field you might want. Yes, Boise College Alumi if you must ask (predated BSU). **************~~~~~~~~~~ "I've been on this rock too long to bother with these liars any more." ~SIGforum advisor~ "When the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change, then change will come."~~sigmonkey

My only apparent accomplishment in life is being banned from an ancient forum |
I lived in Idaho for 5 years. NNU is a decent school if you're into liberal arts. If you want STEM, then Boise State is much better. My only experience with NNU was dragging a screaming 3 year old out of the Basketball Areana in front of a huge crowd at a home school conference. The town of Nampa is ok, the south part of town is much nicer than the north part. North Nampa is probably one of the only ghettos in Idaho.
