I just checked “Online Now”, and saw:

“There are currently 125 member(s) and 376 guest(s) on the forums.”

Almost exactly a 1 to 3 ratio. Guests are welcome of course, but I always wonder why the guests don’t join, so they can enter the discussions.

They (some/many?) 'could' be members that are not logged in on a particular device. There are lot's of longtime members/lurkers that don't post much!

They could also have their 'Online Now' Hide me button checked. That could skew the member/guest ratio considerably.

I don't stay logged in, so many times I'm probably amongst those guests.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Not really. If the hide me is checked the id is still in the member count. The id just isn't shown.

Is there any security risk if I never log out? If not, why log out?

Why log out? It gives you a moment to reconsider what you were going to say Smile

If you're goin' through hell, keep on going.
Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it.
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there.

I am very seldom logged in and seems like every time I quit out of my browser or shut down my computer it logs me out.

I typically only login when I post. My guess is most of the guests are regulars and spies make up the rest.

Indeed. I left myself logged out almost exclusively for the better part of a year for just that reason.

Yep. Never log in unless I'm going to post or start a thread as I did the other day. Probably the first time I've logged in for a couple of months.
