Yeah, you read that right. There's a lot of stupidity in the world, here's an example of not understanding the moment and flushing it down the toilet.

Ironic for me personally as I was just along the coast near Monterey and spent some time watching whales feeding and breaching, as they migrated southward down the coast.

https://www.foxnews.com/great-...e-watching-boat-trip
quote:
Video footage of one family’s boating trip in Washington state has gone viral on social media, as it shows three humpback whales nearing their vessel and eventually prompting one scared family member to hysterically phone police.

On Sept. 29, the Lucianna family was cruising on Puget Sound when Darren began filming as the massive sea creatures approached their boat, Insider reports.

Though Darren welcomes the whales and voices awe for seeing the incredible creatures up close, tensions soon rise among the crew as the whales begin swimming closer toward and even beneath the boat.

"Oh my god, it's going right underneath us you guys," an anxious woman worries.

"We're going to die," another person agrees.

"Look at this guys, you'll never see this again," Darren calmly counters as he encourages the group to “relax.” “Oh my gosh, this is amazing,” he continues, in awe of the whales.

One of the women on board was not so easily convinced, and proceeded to place a call to 911, Time reports.

"I'm on Puget Sound and there are three gray whales right underneath our boat and I'm afraid that we might get flipped over. I'm really scared," she says in the clip, which has reportedly since been deleted from Facebook.

Turning on the motor, the Lucianna family proceeded to jet away, totally amazed at what they just witnessed.

In the days since, the video has gone seriously viral on social media, racking up millions of combined views between Twitter and Facebook.

Some users mocked the hysterics, while others voiced frustration with the family’s move of turning on the boat’s motor so close to the whales. Other cheeky commenters, meanwhile, voiced support for Darren’s fascination of the whales, and lamented his family’s general dismissal of the special moment.

“My man needs a new family,” one said.

That would be both awesome and kinda scary at the same time...I can imagine the conversation on the other side down below..."ooomwwahhhh-ommmmmmmmm-waaaommmmmmmmm-wahhhhh" which translates "damn it Carl...I told you not to get so close to those walkie/floaty land thingies!...now I'm gonna have to sonar the great white shark patrol to get us out of this"...

Overall...that is a once in a lifetime encounter by walkie/floaty land thingies with whales Big Grin

M242 Bushmaster, of course, with a friend wielding a 55 gallon drum of whale spray.

Anything less, the situation may get dicey.

As always, I’d like to point out that Reno911 was the most realistic police patrol show, in my opinion.

How could you make a serious drama about “Officers receiving a call for dangerous whales attacking tourons” Wink. You can imagine that skit!

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

OK, a whale swimming or breaching right next to a small boat could be hazardous, but what did she expect anyone to do about it? Confused Roll Eyes

It's the way society is conditioning the sheep to respond.

1. Something bad happens.
2. Call police.
3. Wait there helplessly for them to solve all your problems.

She was obviously scared and didn't know what else to do (heaven forbid we teach people to actually be self-sufficient and deal with their own problems). If she was in fear for her life, I guess they were the only ones she knew to call.

Washington State- There's an over abundance of absolute stupidity out here.

Once just north of the San Juans while coming back from a scuba diving trip we sat in a 14 foot inflatable boat as a pod of killer whales went by.

My friend say pull over and we'll watch them go by- I said cut the motor and they'll go around us- They did.

We could see them just feet away going around us and under us. It was spectacular- I've never seen 3 people so excited in my life. There was no panic just absolute awe.

She is an obvious idiot. What is 911 going to do about the whales? Ok, the boat capsizes, granted that could be an issue but why do people venture out to see the whales and not realize they are wild mammals and there are no guarantees? I believe J. Cousteau said once you enter the ocean, you enter the food chain.

My sister used to work for the township answering the telephone "hotline" for people with issues, complaints etc. One day she had a woman call all upset and wanting the town to come over right away because there were big giant birds in her yard! (turkeys) Roll Eyes

Make sure your PFD and ditch bag with a handheld VHF, and a PLB or Epirb are close at hand, then enjoy the show.

... or you can just panic.
