Now I’m not trying to pick on people that have a little extra poundage. God knows I could lose a few to say the least. However...

So I’m standing at work yesterday and a coworker comes in wearing incredibly short shorts. The downside, she’s 5’2” and pushing the 300 lb mark. It’s not just the shorts, it’s the yoga pants. Like I work with more women than men, but most are rather obese, and ALL of them wear yoga pants. I don’t get it, because it’s not sexy, or workplace appropriate. We don’t have a dress code, so anything goes as the liberal female that owns the company is in lala land.

Anyways, am I just getting old and jaded? I thought that at one point in our society, people were somewhat conservative about showing off their body, especially if it’s not aesthetically pleasing.

Do any of you all have to deal with situations like this? Does it make you feel uncomfortable having someone half naked around all day long, spilling out if their clothes?

***Edit
I should have mentioned, we have a couple guys who wear skinny jeans or leggings (yoga pants). It’s not good.

Aesthetics aside, it isn’t appropriate work attire no matter the dress code unless somehow related to the fitness industry.

Not the fitness industry. It’s a production facility. I’m the “manager" who is micromanaged by an owner.
Good company with great potential if the owner realizes that she hired me to manage and lead the team, with efficiency to make her money.
Sometimes I think she doesn’t care, or understand the importance of a uniform or dress code, or structure and the significance of a chain of command.

Anyways, you are correct, aesthetics aside, it’s a dress code issue that I am not currently allowed to change.

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Good basic business concept owned by someone who doesn't know how to run a business? It doesn't sound lije a big company. Maybe you should leave, and start your low version of the business properly run. Do you have any legal encumbrances that would prevent that.

Years ago I became convinced work uniforms were a good idea. Far too many people can not be trusted to dress themselves.

Might try getting an insurance company to evaluate the dress habits. Might be some sort of safety issue nobody has recognized.

You could always approach it from a safety stand point. Yoga pants will do nothing to prevent injuries, where jeans, cargo pants, etc., protect the legs fully and are much more cut and abrasion resistant.

I work for a worldwide delivery service.
I've worn a uniform to work everyday for the last 33 years with no objection.

But the last 7 years, I can't walk through the hub from my locker (or parking lot) to my dispatch office without seeing someone's underwear because they have their pants or shorts hanging off their ass.

This isn't about not looking.
One shouldn't have to walk through the workplace with blinders on because others don't know how to dress themselves at a place of employment.
This ain't the hood yo, this is a place of business.
As far as yoga pants, I've seen more cottage cheese on the asses of these women at work in the last several years than when I delivered for Borden in the early 1980s.

Yet management won't address the issue because the part time turnover rate is so high they don't dare say anything.

I don’t know about the short shorts, but I bet the yoga pants don’t chafe like a pair of jeans might. Bet they’re comfy.
I’ve seen skinny chicks in yoga pants I cringe away from -sometimes cellulite doesn’t settle just on the heavyset, and most who wear them don’t seem to know it- or care.

It’s surprising the boss doesn’t have a dress code in the handbook for a mfg facility. Even a thigh length smock, apron, or labcoat might help. If you’re manager, why don’t you approach the boss asking about a policy being implemented- reflex/de flex had an interesting idea with insurance. If it’s manufacturing, OSHA might have something to say about it safety wise, something similar to rightwires comment. But it’ll cost, and if lab coats, etc aren’t in the budget, that’s that, and stick with the radiomans/monkey’s policy.
Life could be worse. At least they reliably appear for their shift, right?

Start showing up for work dressed like Jacques Cousteau and maybe your co-workers will get the point.

performance ,consistency, dependability, ability to work responsibly with others, and trust worthy

would all come before the concerns you have , as long as the customers don't see those that offend you.

very good employees are every bit as hard to find as very good employer's

perhaps offering them a uniform of some sort,
would ingratiate them rather than isolate them.

I will admit, there was a period in my life where I was 100% on board with your thoughts. Now, I honestly don't give a rip. If someone wants to wear something and they are comfortable in it, who am I to say it is or isn't right? If there isn't a policy, then it's up to them. If you are offended by it, I suggest a discussion with your HR manager, but I doubt that is going to go favorably in the direction you desire. At the end of the day, let it go....
