So the White Crowned Sparrows, Juncos, and other small birds have migrated in for the winter months. After cleaning the gutters I took my camera to the driveway and sat calmly in a folding chair instead of watching TV (my youngest son and his friend were playing X-Box). I took one of my cameras outside with me and was able to catch this little guy, a Juvenile White Crowned Sparrow. This is not a cropped image Pentax K-1, Sigma 500mm 1:4.5 lens, Sigma 2x teleconverter hand held, no flash. This combination is a beast, but is heavy as all get out so I use my rifle marksmanship training in order to hold it steady and actuate the shutter between heart beats. __________________________ More blessed than I deserve. http://davesphotography7055.zenfolio.com/f238091154

Image Stabilization and that level of magnification would cost north of 4 grand. He went old school I suspect in part due to funds but also because he was capable of going old school. I've lost a good bit of interest in photography since going digital because film required really working at getting it right in just one image and time spent in the darkroom experimenting with masking and burning could be fascinating. So, hats off to Lizardman for going Old School and getting it 100% correct. I've stopped counting.

Nice one! We used to get that mix for the winter farther west where we lived before. Here in the Texas Hill Country, We maintain our regular visitors to our feeders with just random diversity every now and then. For a couple of years, we had pine siskins as daily visitors while we had chipping sparrows for another couple of years. Retired Texas Lawman

The camera body has the ability for image stabilization. However, I turn it off as that function can actually cause a photo to be out of focus if the conditions are right. I prefer to adjust ISO, f-stop, and shutter speed to accommodate the focal length. at least a shutter speed equal to the focal length or a bit faster than the focal length (50mm lens = at least 1/50 second shutter speed). And thank you for the compliment. __________________________ More blessed than I deserve. http://davesphotography7055.zenfolio.com/f238091154

Yes they do. I have these and English Sparrows visiting regularly (the English Sparrows prefer the feeder while these prefer ground feeding). I was hoping you or your brother would comment on this __________________________ More blessed than I deserve. http://davesphotography7055.zenfolio.com/f238091154
