1972 on THIS Day-A Japanese soldier found hiding on Guam
Dude hid on a destroyer til he got bored.

Pretty sure a trained Soldier could hide in a jungle for a while.

Really. Or on any of those islands, I would think. The stuff I've read and seen of what our GI's went through in the PTO is awful, and that with all the might and support of the wartime Allied army behind them. A lone defeated soldier with maybe a buddy or two? It defies belief. Can't deny the fighting spirit of the Imperial Japanese soldier of the era, that's for sure.
