I’ve never held one of these so I’ve been watching videos to try to understand how the AS trigger works. Let me know if I have this correct. If this gun is chambered, the striker is captured partially cocked and will be in SA mode. To put it into DA mode the cocker must be depressed releasing the striker. If the gun is fired, the striker is once again captured partially cocked and in SA mode when the slide returns. Thus no different than any P series Sig with a decocker. The only difference I can see is that from a DA mode, if the trigger is pressed you can stop when the trigger clicks, before firing but after compressing the striker. Releasing the trigger at this point will put the gun in SA mode. This should also eliminate the possibility of DAO mode because it will return to SA mode if the slide travels. Did I miss anything?

The P series comparison is very accurate. Its a striker with a decocker. _____________________________________________ Proverbs 3:31 "Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways."

I have a old school P99 AS bought it more than 20 years ago. It has 3 types of triggers. When you chamber a round and then press the flush decocker button on the slide it will decock into DA mode. Which is a full length pull to the rear and about a 8 pound trigger pull. If you chamber a round and don't decock it the gun will be in AS single action mode for the first shot only. It's a full length pull to the rear but the trigger pull is about 4.25 to 4.5 lbs just like a hammer fired SA trigger. Now after the first shot DA or AS every following shot is in SA mode 1/3 the length pull and 4.25 - 4.5 pound trigger pull. If you want the trigger to be in SA mode for the first shot after chambering a round, from AS mode you pull the trigger to the rear about 1/3 or more to the rear until you hear and feel and hear the trigger click and lock into the SA position. This is very dangerous because if you pull too much you will fire the weapon. It's easy to practice with a empty gun and dry firing. All in all even though its striker fired the Walther P-99 AS feels like a DA/SA hammer fired pistol.

Only difference from a traditional DA/SA (which is the way this gun should be run IMO) is that when you chamber a round the striker cocks but the trigger returns to a "Longer" single action pull. You can technically move the trigger to a shorter single action pull by pulling it to the "click". All that said for all intents and purposes and for safety sakes the gun should, IMO/YMMV, be treated like any other DA/SA. -Load -Decock -Shoot from DA -Decock -Return to holster etc. FANFRIGGINTASTIC GUN though. I regret getting rid of my 2005-ish P99AS and P99c AS. Tried to move to Glock and then ended up with P320's. Lights & Lefty Holsters were very hard to find for the P99's. At least at the time. Now I think stuff that fits Canik would work. Agree on using them as DA/SA fully de-cocked after chambering. The AS mode on the trigger is weird but really not much different than an HK LEM.

I agree with all of the above. I too got rid of an old P99 AS that I had years ago. I shouldn't have done so. I made up for it by purchasing the P99 AS Final Edition and I am glad I did.

My Walther P99 AS is by far my favorite striker fired gun. Bought it 18 years ago, I'm glad I never got rid of it. I am with you gentlemen. I purchased both the P99AS and AS Compact many years ago and held onto both! So glad that I did.
