....it's 'cinqo de beero' in any college town I've been in since about the early 1990s, and the only 'holiday' it celebrates there is another excuse to pahr-tay.....

WarhorseCinco de Mayo...doesn't bother me at all, I do not go out and partake because of it. I drink alcohol, and eat Mexican food when I feel like doing so.

Right, and that's because they celebrate the 4th of July in Mexico, as we all know.

The Battle of Puebla saw some 4,000 Mexican troops facing off some 8,000 French troops. The victory was significant for Mexico.
A year after the Battle of Puebla, the French defeated the Mexican army, entered Mexico City and ... installed Emperor Maximilian I, as ruler of Mexico.
When the American Civil War ended, the US assisted Mexico in getting the French out.

BirdvolBest not find any race other than whitey eating hot dogs at a baseball game...wait, they shouldn't even be there if there not white.
Otherwise, it's cultural whatever they call it. Otherwise known as BS.
Yes, I jest.
Hispanic folk especially love baseball, but they generally don't serve arroz con frijoles at American baseball stadiums.
Actually, white guy that I am, I wish they would serve Hispanic foods at base-ah-ball games.

Do Mexicans celebrate the 4th of July?
No, of course not. Nor would I expect them to, but I sure as hell won't celebrate something weirdly obscure to me either as some foreign countries forgotten holiday to most Mexicans except the ones here, who're for the most part born here, but insist this is their bs heritage...
Cinco de Borocha is more like it, not that there's anything wrong with getting commode hugging drunk, but showing Mexican patriotism by doing this is a joke...

GibbI usually go out for "Mexican" on March 17th, and I'll go to the Irish Bar on May 5th.
The crowds are so much smaller for reason...

architectCinco de Drinko is:
1) my dad's birthday (RIP),
2) the day I met my (current) wife, and
3) the day we picked up our (current) dog from the shelter.
So I have some things of my own to celebrate.

It’s “Taco Tuesday”, here. But I eat them any day of the week.
