Looking for a good range bag - seems like most everything I've seen is tactical this and tactical that. Doesn't anyone sell just a basic quality range bag anymore?

Here's what I'd be taking:
2-3 pistols (with case or without)
2 sets electronic hearing protection
shooting glasses
6-8 extra mags in total
200+ rounds ammo
targets

I won't be taking it in a survival situation nor backpacking the Alaska wilderness for weeks at a time. Just going to the range for a few hours each month.

I'd like to stay at or around $50.

Those who pack similarly light to the range, what do you recommend?

Although your quest may be more specific than typical, may I recommend that you employ this search engine...

We have on the forum exhausted the range bag search at least six times in the past few years and there are pages of ideas.

I actually went through this a few months ago and ended up buying 2 different size tool bags at Home Depot.

Small is great for 1-2 guns, ammo and ears while the larger can hold 3-4 guns.

THey are sturdy as hell, have rigid bottoms and are pretty cheap

I might suggest getting something with wheels. The range bag I had was getting too heavy to haul around, so I took a hard side catalog case and have used it as a range bag for many years. Plenty roomy and easy to carry several (6 or so) guns in gun rugs and hundreds of rounds of ammo.

if I were looking for something like this again - I would get a 'backpack' type bag for the range ...

dang things get heavy when you pack all the necessary stuff in there Smile

plus leaves both hands free ...

Midway has a no name one that also has a smaller bag inside.

I went with this after the Galati range bag I had for over 15 years died.

LaRue is what you seek.
Multiple size options. I have the big one but need to grab the smaller one as my range trips now generally are only 1 maybe 2 guns.

Looks like they have bumped their prices a bit. I have had the big one for maybe 6 years now and it was $100 bucks then now it is $135.

Their pro bag is now $99.

The Big bag is touted as being made in the USA.
Small bag is not so not sure if it is made in the states or not.

I use an older camera bag. My BIL just got this one, and it seems the 'right size' for $40

I know you said you don't want tactical but it seems all range bags have gone black and had the "tactical" name added since tactical became fashionable. With that said the 5.11 bag hits all your marks. I have been using one for 5 years and it is tough and carries everything I need on the range. If you go the tool bag route I have noticed a lot of Craftsman bags on sale. I bought a set of 3 recently for about $20.

I have a few Craftsman bags myself. Two smaller ones for pistols and a larger one for the rifle range.

Nicely discreet.
