Guam Garand
I took a job working in my lgs recently now that I’m retired….the store was bought by one of my guys on my shift when I was his Captain. Long story short…we are dealing with several hundred guns from an estate and one in particular has caught my attention. We just confirmed that we have one of the infamous M1 Guam Garands…I started connecting some dots and there’s a possibility that that rifle was transported on my dads ship as he was on a troop transport ship during WWII and was at the Guadal Canal invasion…dad passed a few years ago…if he was still with us I would buy that rifle in a heart beat and give it to him….kinda gives me chills to hold that rifle. Maybe I’ll just buy it anyway…I have first dibs

I don't know if I could pass it up if the finances allowed for it.

So cool.

While it can’t be proven who carried this rifle, it appears the strongest probability is that Marine Corps 3rd Marine Division or Army 77th Infantry Division are the most likely groups. Im researching which divisions my dads ship transported and if it’s one of these…I’ll buy it. I feel some kinda weird connection if that’s the case.
It also appears that this rifle is the only one in the group of 30 that has a different gas block that allowed it to launch grenades…..my baseline knowledge of this weapon is minimal but I guarantee if I do purchase it…I'm going to learn as much as I can….again, weird connection will be my driving force. Very cool piece of history either way….and if it was likely on dads ship….what a small world it is!

Buy it anyway. Do the research later. But at least snag it while you can. You can always sell it later if it's not the right one or, better yet, you find someone else with a unique connection to it.

You might want to look into that different gas block. It could be a gas-trap rifle and from what I remember they are rare and highly desirable to Garand collectors.

Buy it! Rare chance at a rare historic rifle! People love appending “rare” on guns and that’s one that legitimately deserves the title.

I’ll likely buy it….I have time, it’s not displayed in the store. It’s locked up in the office for now…..we are still waiting on the State to issue authorization numbers for 180 hand guns to transfer into the FFL before we can sell them. They’ve had that list for a couple weeks now, and we haven’t even started paperwork on the rifles yet….total is around 700 weapons both hand gun and long gun. Dealing with a large estate is a PIA…and tons of paperwork not to mention dealing with probate and attorneys….it’s a long process.
The price isn’t even set yet on that rifle….im sure it will be north of 7k….
