108 years ago today is the anniversary of Canada's worst disaster.
A munitions ship was in a collision in the harbor. In an instant almost 2,000 people were killed and much of the port destroyed.

Some estimates have that one around 3kt. For comparison, Hiroshima was ~15kt and Nagasaki was ~21kt, though estimates do vary a bit.

The documentaries, docudramas, and video productions about that event are fascinating. What a horrible accident.

The north end was obliterated. An anchor was blown across the harbor and landed on the other side. There is a monument where it landed.

My grandparents lived in Armdale at the time and the day after the explosion a blizzard hit.

Boston sent train loads of supplies and that’s why every year Halifax sends a Christmas tree to the city of Boston.
