Thank you, Steve!

I Just came in from riding some trails and ironically this type of riding is where the bike has been compromised compared to the original Trail 90. It's light enough and has plenty of steering lock, but with no low range and only 4 speeds, 1st is simply too tall for real trail riding. To lower the overall gearing enough to make 1st a trail gear, 3rd and 4th will be too low for the road. Honda really should have incorporated the 2-range 4 speed transmission or designed the single range transmission to be a 5-speed. Gears 2-5 for normal riding plus a creeper 1st gear for 3-10 mph riding through the woods, ruts, etc.

As designed, the bike is ideal for tooling around on small paved and dirt roads with up to 50 mph speed limits, which is about the bike's top speed on level. The Trail 125 is not a trail bike IMO.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

The exhaust tucks well in and has a nice heat shield so doesn't seem to be a problem at all. I never noticed it when riding.

Guess I'll keep my 90. I love the low range gearing. Big Grin

It does need some work though before hunting season. Got a new carb to put on it.

For riding trails, yes I would.

If you would want something newer a Yamaha XT250 makes an excellent trail bike. It is only 35-40# heavier than a Trail 125 but comes with full size 18" and 21" wheels, wide ratio 5-speed, fuel injection, fairly large tank, low seat, plenty of ground clearance, torquey air cooled motor, and manufactured in Japan. First gear is much lower than the Trail 125 and when on the highway top speed is a good 20 mph higher.

I still like the little Trail for just putting around the neighborhood. And with an automatic clutch it might be good for the grandsons to learn on next year.

What a great "retro" Honda.

I've got an old Trail 90 from somewhere in the early 70's. It sat in the barn for years and then I got her cleaned up and running. Here is a pic and another one with me taking her for a spin. Smile

All the Trail 125's I see posted online have a sale price of around 4 grand, new or used.

sjtill, $4,000 should be for a new one, although they may try to add destination and doc.

I gave the dealer $3,000 even for this one. Figure if kept in nice condition it might be worth $2,500-$2,800 for the next couple years so it shouldn't cost me much.

My last couple years in high school in Lake Elsinore in the late 60’s early 70’s, lots of kids had Honda Trail bikes. I made fun of them and got a Yamaha Enduro for “real dirt biking”. Not the last time I thought/did stupid things and I have always wished I had got the Honda instead.

I’d get one now, but don’t have a place to keep it or a vehicle to get it to a place to ride it. It would be a perfect fire road bike.

My brother in GA got one a while back, but there’s galaxies of difference between GA and So CA.

Nice pick up OP. Enjoy..

Yamaha enduros from that era were wonderful motorcycles and nice unmolested examples are quite desirable today. Hodakas were great little trail bikes of the time as well.

I imagine this little bike will get good MPG. It came with its 1.4 gallon tank 3/4 full according to the gauge and still shows 1/2 after running it around for an hour and half.

I've got 1973 with less than 5k miles on it. It's amazing what you can do with them or the 110 in low.
