Now it's on to the next phase of life and where that takes me, I have no idea but I'm sure it'll be great.

95flhrBeen retired a little over a year now and busier than I’ve ever been. Also I’ll say retirement is the best job I’ve ever had.

CPD SIGI texted Klusk2 as soon as I saw this post and wished him nothing but good things in his future!
However, here's where I don't want to sound self-centered, but...
I'm torn.
Again, I wish NOTHING BUT THE BEST for you Klusk! Keep beating the hell out of the Pension for a long, long time!
But damn Brother, ya can't stick around for the DNC Dumpster Fire coming up this summer? The (very few still "working") Police Officers out there are going to NEED good, experienced, sharp, quick-thinking Police out there on the line!
Looks like there's one less we have to watch our backs this summer.
Again, Brother- ENJOY!
Sometime soon, as in real soon, You, Bulldog and I need to meet up for dinner and a few drinks!
(Don't worry, I know you two are on a fixed income now, so I'll pick up the tab!

Iowa is only two hours. We have fine health care here in the Quad Cities, 45 minutes to the west in Iowa City is a world class hospital.

sjtillI’m curious: do retired LEO’s have nightmares about their work? I’m retired from cardiology since 2015 and I tell people I’m still on night call—in my dreams. All sorts of frustrations—I don’t have a beeper, I’m late for rounds…..
Do you guys get that stuff too? I imagine so, maybe a lot worse?

Not retired yet, I still have a few years to go.
But yes, every once and a while I have a few "visitors" from days past from either the Marines or Chicago Police. It doesn't bother me anymore.

pulicordsCongrats on your retirement!!! Enjoy every penny and day earned, and I can only hope you're as happy as I've been since I retired in 2008! A bit of warning though: If you thought time flew by during the last few years of your career as a LEO, you'll be stunned by how fast retirement goes!

My "nightmares" involve administrative/supervisory responsibilities I had such as working a crime scene or keeping up with a busy caseload. It's been over 15 years since I retired, but I still get these dreams now and then. When I wake up, it's nice knowing I don't have to concern myself with such matters any more.

No nightmares, because I've explored their effect over the years before I retired.
My LE related dreams are usually being called back into uniform and handle a situation that I specialized in...maybe it is a nightmare

OneWheelDriveIt's good to see that you're sleeping better. When I retired I could only get 4 to 5 hours of sleep each night for the first year. I'm up to 6 now.
