While my kids aren’t big gamers, a few Lego this and games plus Minecraft and we are out of room on our XBox One’s hard drive. I was wondering what everyone suggests for a second or backup hard drive?

Thanks!

We use an off the shelf WD external drive. Plug and play.

Well crap. We bought the kids an Xbox one for Christmas. I had no idea another drive would be necessary at some point in the future.

When the new xbox one x came out, we kept the old. One for the kids and one for the adult/kids. Saves my sanity and no more boogers on my controller.

I use a generic WD USB drive also. I sprung for a solid state. Probably didn't need that.

I have three of the mini WD HDD "my passport" things. They're small, but theyre all 4tb and work great for computer back-ups. One of them is dedicated to my Xbox.

DONT bother getting the one from Walmart that is sold by the Xbox and Playstation ones in the green or blue packaging for $20 more, just because it's advertised as "made for console." any of the normal priced ones from the digital storage section work great.

Are you missing some zeros? 4 gig??? You can buy a 1 TB spindle drive for $60, plus a cheap enclosure for a few bucks more.

WD external drive. It's actually faster than the built in drive and I now use it as the main drive.

With the PS4 you can change the internal drive if you want. With the Xbox, external only.

Both are able to use external hds. Get the small ones that don't require their own power supply. I have two Xbox Ones and one Xbox One X. All three have 3GB WD external HDs attached and I just attached a 290? GB SSD external HD to my son's Xbox One (launch day so it's old) to help reduce load times on his more frequently played games.

If your kids want to play ARK, then get them an Xbox One X. It's crappy on the original One and barely passable in the One S.

I think the Xbox has three USB 3.0 ports available.
Yes it does. Two in the back. One on the side.

The hard drive size is probably bigger than those of us that have older Xbox One systems so you may be in the clear (for a bit).

EDIT - CORRECTION, I meant 4 TB, not GB.

No. That is the price. You may have to order for store pickup or free shipping if not available locally.

Which reminds me, I need to.

I think he meant zeros added to the end of the memory since you said 4 GB’s instead of 4 TB’s Big Grin

Thanks everyone. I was afraid I was going to have to buy some extremely expensive and proprietary hard drive to get it to work properly.

I don't know how this will work out in the longrun but I bought my wife an XBox One S that streams the games. Costco Christmas deal for $229. She likes it.
