I have a new Mac Mini on the way. UPS says it will be delivered tomorrow. I'm not seeing how that is possible seeing as it left Taiwan about 12 hours ago. Anyhow UPS lists Taiwan as being China.

It also says it's cleared customs, but that was in Taiwan. Is that customs export and will it sit in the US waiting for customs clearing also? I know nothing of international shipping. Didn't even realize Apple would be sending it from the factory.

I ordered a new Macbook a couple of weeks ago and the time/date stamps were similar, it arrived in one day.. I suspect the Intl Date line is part of the reason. Either way, the shipping was very prompt.

Certain companies can pre-clear U.S. Customs overseas. It is inspected by U.S. Customs agents stationed at approved points of departure. This can be done for cargo, as well as, passengers. You don’t have to process with Customs once the item or people arrive in the states. Speeds things considerably.
And most countries and companies recognize Taiwan as part of China officially.
Finally, you will probably have your item in hand very quickly. Ordered 2 iPhones a few months ago and China to my door was less than 48 hrs.

In a nutshell:

Prior to 1949, the nation of China was controlled by the Nationalist Chinese faction, and was known as the Republic of China.

By the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949 (started in 1927, took a break to fight the Japanese invasion during WW2 from 1936-1945, then resumed after WW2), the Communist Chinese faction had taken over the country, and driven the remaining Nationalist forces off the mainland and onto the island of Taiwan.

Taiwan is now the (old) Republic of China, believes itself to be the legitimate government of China as a whole, and claims that the Communists are rebels illegitimately occupying the Chinese mainland that rightfully still belongs to the Nationalist government of the Republic of China.

On their end, the Communists proclaimed the country as the (new) People's Republic of China, and claims that Taiwan is merely a province in rebellion against the legitimate Communist Chinese government.

Hence the ROC/PRC "two Chinas", and the enmity between China and Taiwan that continues to this day.

All the valuable artifacts, precious and priceless items that were in the Forbidden City are in a museum in ~Taipei, Taiwan.

Amazing museum and artifacts on display there.
A must see if you are in Taiwan.

As I understand it when the Nationalists were pulling back they took all the items from the National palace/forbidden city and crated them to Taiwan.

Safest place to avoid missile attack when PRC attacks Taiwan will be at the museum.

I don't think this represents the current position of the government or people of Taiwan. It's quite complicated, as the linked article explains. There are groups called "blue" who want to keep the name ROC and think of Taiwan as being the legitimate government of China. But the majority seem to be in the "green" group who just want to be independent of the PRC. Some of them want to abandon the name Republic of China completely.

If there were no fear of Chicom invasion, Taiwan would without doubt declare itself independent.
