I decided to make some more NC BBQ yesterday. This was the best rub by far. Just enough brown sugar to caramelize the bark. The meat claws are awesome!

These guys do a review of whiskey and bbq.

That 'Lije is my go-to bourbon. I need to get me one-o-those iceball molds.

The meat looks tasty too.

BBQ looks fantastic.

Are you in the part of the Carolinas that uses vinegar or mustard bbq sauce?

Ironic that a Baptist preacher is credited as the Father of Bourbon Whiskey. Thank you, Reverend Craig.

That looks delicious.

I, too, like the EC barrel strength expression. Heaven Hill's best product, IMO.

More typical than ironic, I'd say. I long ago lost count of the drinking Baptists I've met and known.

While I won’t speak for all, as one who started attending a Baptist church in just the last few years I can attest that some of the legalistic traditions with no biblical basis are phasing out. Total abstinence from the consumption of alcohol is one of those traditions. Now you’re still not supposed to go get blasted...

I love me some Elijah Craig. And BBQ by the way. Looks delicious.

Baptists were originally "putting a hedge of protection around sin" but then somehow the hedge became sin. In the example of alcohol, the sin is drunkenness and the hedge of protection is you can't get drunk if you don't have any. Somewhere along the line, modern-day Pharisees made even having it in moderation into a sin which of course is total legalistic nonsense.

Well if we're going down that rabbit hole...

Jews don't recognize Jesus as the son of God, Protestants don't recognize the Pope, and Baptists don't recognize each other in the liquor store.

Baptists don't have sex standing up.. because people might think they are slow dancing...

Thank you, Thank you...
I'll be here all Week!

Always bring two Baptists fishing with you.

If you only bring one, he will drink all your beer.

Pretty sure the Baptist reason for abstaining is to keep you from becoming a stumbling block to your brother (specifically, your brother whom you are trying to win to Christ). He also says things about not eating meat if the folks you're trying to win over don't do that, yada yada. The first miracle was water to wine, after all. If'n it'd been a sin to drink, He'd have changed water to Perrier. Big Grin

OP, you killed me with that pic. Now I gotta go spend $ to get my own version tonight.

Sig4Eva, your thread ended up making me spend about $50 on local barbecue takeout. They were happy for the business, and I was REALLY happy when I was done eating it. Don't know if I should thank you or blame you, but thanks... I suppose.

Corn Mash and Cigars....

two items, I probably should not say it, I'm familiar with.
