I own two irreplaceable YAMAHA items whose LED(?) displays are acting funny.
First one is the original DSP-1 sound processor that I purchased 30 years ago. I finally updated it 17 years ago with the integrated amp DSP-A1. That was the end of my audio/home theater road.

This stuff is irreplaceable where I live. Paid 4 grand for the A1 and I do not have that kind of money anymore. They're no longer imported and if they were, the price would be 4 times what it cost in the US. At least.

Anyway, both frontal displays are shorted. Will turn on briefly or partially and not stay on permanently. If I press on the A1 screen, it will stay lighted while I keep the pressure.

Wondering if anyone here has experience fixing this and if it worth the trouble. I've come across a video of how to do this but it looked like a real PITA. As I said, no way I can replace the YAMAHAs and since they've served me so well for so long I see no reason to do it either. AFAICT they still work fine.

Nicky,
From what you've said the units still deliver what they should. Only nit is the eye candy displays which you also indicate would be a royal PITA to fix.
Being one who has tweaked and repaired my audio components for decades and still have some vintage 1973 pieces in my rack, I only took on those repairs that both made sense and were within my capabilities. It's worked for me. Smile
So if you think you can make the repairs and believe the displays enhance your enjoyment, go for it. Otherwise....

DSP-1 sound processor

Used, working DSP-1 for $85 at EBay, and ships worldwide.

Doesn't have a remote or a manual, but it doesn't sound like you need either.

Let me know if you're interested and if so, whether I could help facilitate the transaction. If shipping to BA is an issue, when/if you're stateside (other thread), we could find a way to get it to you while you're here along with that crossover I still have.
