I think tomorrow is National Onion Rings Day according to the National Day Calendar site. Enjoy!
I usually go for onion rings when I stop at a Sonic, Arby's or Burger King instead of taters.

JellyIt is rare to find really good Onion rings these days around here in the PNW. Most places use frozen out of a bag with a corn based batter.
If you like flour-based deep fry Onion rings or seafood you might try Pride of the West All Purpose Batter Mix it is flour based and than deep fry in peanut oil. Walmart around here have been stocking it the last few years. Or amazon also carries it.

OutnumberedMy first job in high school was at a small steakhouse/bar. One of my duties, every Thursday, was slicing onions for the type of flour-based batter-fried rings that Para described. Enough for the whole weekend. A 50# bag of onions! Sliced on an ancient Hobart, centers thrown away, and all sections separated into individual rings. It took hours, and would stain my hands yellow for days! Not to mention the smell. WHEW! Still love onion rings though, especially that kind!

Then somebody started offering an MBA. Somewhere in the MBA curriculum, there is an important lesson, that when customers are THAT happy with a product or service, it means you are wasting too much money on it and all efforts must be made to find a way to make it cheaper, similar, but cheaper for the same price, or hopefully at a higher price, new and improved, and with the right ad budget, you can sell even more!

Anybody from a place other than Colorado have "Frings" as an option? Around here, you can order Frings, which are a half order of fries and a half order of onion rings. I used to go to CA from time to time and tried to order frings...they looked at me like I had 3 heads.
Just a Colorado thing?
.
I remember Jack In The Box making those in the late 70's. Half fries and half onion Frings = Frings. Have not seen or heard of Frings since then.
Funny thing, once we discovered Frings, we made a joke about Slobsters. We'd go to Steak And Ale and ask for a dinner of Steak and Lobster. There was no such thing on the menu as Slobster so we'd as for the manager and try to convince him to make it. Our request was usually met with disdain. Lol.

David LeeI'm a big fan of the Bloomin' Onion from Outback. Thought I plugged up my heart valves the first time I ate a whole one. Always get a bucket of their dipping sauce to go. Its got to have horse raddish in it.
