I like this phone ok, got it b/c the Apple chicanery was getting old. My own impression of Android is that you can do more with it, but the things that both it and iPhone do tend to take more steps with the Android than the Apple product does.

It did fine for a while, then about 2 updates ago it starts doing this thing where it "can't send message at this time," then thinks about it and eventually won't send no matter what. Also started not recognizing the network when trying to make a call, then if I didn't restart it, it wouldn't start calling again on it's own.

So I get online and try the things that they recommended, including resetting preferences. There are tons of crap articles designed to increase their site visit count, but many are poor copies of (mediocre to begin with) articles. One of those said it might be a program I've downloaded, and to delete programs until it works right again. Riiigghht. Anyhow, I do the reset of all preferences, and clear a couple data caches. After that it does better on not recognizing the network all the time, but now I have a new frustration.

I have always set my phones to NOT beep or make noise when I get a text (annoying to my clients when my phone rings when they are paying for my time), but instead to vibrate twice and have the little blue light thingy blink. I do NOT like the email messages to notify, but if it did, it always just vibrated a single time, thus letting me know silently whether I had an email or a text message.

All that said, how do I get my S9 to stop notifying me of emails, or better yet, how can I get it to vibrate a different pattern for email than for texts? Anyone know the answer to this?

How do I stop email notification?

For the standard email client do the following:

1.Open Email.
2.Hit the menu button and select Settings.
3.Tap the account you want to turn notifications off for.
4.Scroll down to Notification settings and tap on Select ringtone.
5.Select Silent and tap OK.
6.Hit the back button until it takes you back to the inbox

Pretty easy to find with Google.

I appreciate your attempt, smschulz. Maybe I'm just slow.

I have 6 email accounts all feeding into one main mailbox. When I follow your directions, what happens is:
1. Open email, which shows all emails in a list from all the servers;
2. Hit the 3 horizontal lines (menu), then tap the settings (gear icon) on the top right;
3. Brings up a list of all the email accounts, heading "Email settings"; tap the account I want to change (so far so good, right?);
4. When I tap, what comes up is (top to bottom):
sync account
email sync schedule
email folders to sync
email sync period
limit retrieval size
limit retrieval size while roaming
account name
your name
always cc/bcc myself
signature
show images
auto download attachments
server settings.

That is all I get.

You went too far. Don't select the account yet. Look further down under "General" and click on "Notifications." From there you should be able to do what you need to do

I can't stand my Samsung S9. I had a Note4 before this and it was fine. My S9 has a mind of it's own. It just goes places on its own. Sometimes I go to use it and it's in Airplane Mode. How the hell did it get on Airplane Mode. Sometimes if I'm outdoors and want to take a photo, I hit the camera button only to find out later that instead of a snapshot, I have a video. How the hell did it get on video ? Other times, I go to take a photo and it's in Selfie mode. And then there are the compulsory Updates. I say compulsory because if you refuse, it won't leave you alone until you give them a time it can be done. Once it's done, half the stuff on your phone is now in a different format. An example is Bookmarks. Every time they do an Update, how you access or establish a new bookmark changes. On top of that, this phone which is less than a year old and costing me $25 per month, has been superceded by the S10 and new subscribers are paying $5 per month for the S9. Didn't take them long to replace the S9 with the S10, which makes me wonder if they too now believe my $25 per month S9 is a piece of junk.

My S9 has been rock solid, had it a year and done several updates. No issues, best phone I have ever had.

For notifications, I go into settings, notifications and see a list of the apps that send notifications with a toggle switch next to each one to turn them on or off. It's quicker to get there then digging into the settings for the app.

my S8 has been acting weird since the last update.

Go into the Message app settings and clear out catche and stored date.

Sometimes I also have to turn on then turn off airplane mode and that usually helps.
