Mrs. 400m was not amused. I’ll measure the resistance in the temperature sensor and check the usual culprits but it’s a piece of junk anyway.

I smell a purchase in my future. The wife will be wanting a dual oven. Let’s put a hard cap of $2500 on this. I’d like to stay below $2000 but I don’t cook so I’m not gonna scream about cost. Honestly, reading reviews of Whirlpool and Maytag makes me nervous. So please educate me. Can I do better than knobs that turn on when bumped, knob printing that wipes off, electronics that go crazy, and ovens that are terribly out of calibration?

I have a 15 year old Kenmore Gas Range that is on its last legs. Looking at Kitchen Aid right now. Retails for around $1,400. Not nearly the variety of gas ranges to select from now versus 5 years ago as there was a big push during the previous administration to eliminate them.

Is your existing range 30" wide?

Consumer Reports top 3 30" wide ranges w/ dual ovens are between $1900 and $3000. The inexpensive one has a recall on it which leaves a the #1 GE Profile PGS960YPFS at $3000 and $2500 LG LTGL6937F.

If you have one of the rare kitchens with a 36" wide range you're looking at $5500 to get a CR recommended model.

Stay away from LG and Samsung. I think that's been well-noted here on SigForum.

Wolf. But get out your checkbook.

I'm currently looking at one seriously and will likely pull the trigger next month. I currently have a GE Adora propane and it sucks. Oven temps are not as indicated and the range-top burners are uneven as all get out (one part of the flame is more intense than the rest so there is very uneven heating of your pots/pans). It's also a PITA to clean.

Jenn-Air is another one I looked at seriously, but I'll likely go with the Wolf.

I'm biased towards Whirlpool since I've been selling their product for 41 years.

Of their 3 brands they offer a double oven model in, I like the Maytag MGT8800FZ the best as it has true convection (which is a heating element around the convection fan). They are on promotion right now for a couple hundred off my regualr dealer cost.

Don’t stop with the suggestions as I’m sure others want to hear them. I did however see that my igniter was broke so I ordered a new one. This will give the wife plenty of time to figure out what she likes without feeling pressured. Thanks as always.

We have used an Electrolux for several years and have been satisfied with its performance (meaning it has not failed yet).

We have a Kenmore made by Frigidaire. It's a five burner dual oven with the larger oven convection. We have had it for around eight years now without any issues, knock on wood. However, my wife used a brillo pad and wiped out the knob labels... Just another brand for you to look into.

Ours is a standalone gas cooktop, ZLine 6 burner.
Has 1 flaky igniter, on the double ring power burner. Otherwise, it's great

Edit: Model is a RTB-36

Women don’t like this idea…

But…. Modern home kitchens are terrible.

They’re “entertaining” areas. Not workplaces.

Likewise, TMK, most modern home appliances are not meant to be used.

(We have been looking at houses.).

Pretty much settled on putting in a working kitchen for me, somewhere in a garage/outside/other area with enough ventilation, and a used combi oven/mixers/work surfaces etc.

Have a GE Monogram, very pleased. Will likely exceed your budget, but not as much as the Viking!

When we moved into our home about 40 years ago, there was a Chambers NG oven in the kitchen. It had been there since 1935 when the house was built.
I kept thinking that this tank of a oven should be kept and not replaced by a more modern oven.
I considered the kitchen my Wife's domain so I backed off on her choice.
The oven was placed on Craig's List and sold immediately at a very low price, we figured it would be a bear to move this cast iron stove and very few people would want to deal with this move.
Was I wrong!
The buyer took it like a thief in the dark, that's when I knew I made a bad mistake by selling it.
That Chambers oven is still probably going strong and will for another century or more.
No electronics at all to fail.
They sure don't make them, like that anymore!
