I give a passing glance at most conspiracy theories and quickly dismiss them as useless but the only one that I’m concerned about is China doing what it can to disrupt our infrastructure
What about the shocking inability of sausage makers and bun bakers to package their products in like quantities? It's a good thing nobody has educated them about prime numbers!

^^^It’s all good now. Through shrinkflation, it now takes 1 1/2 hot dogs to fill a bun or 12 hot dogs for 8 buns.

Then there's this variety of Nathans hot dogs. Five to a package! Publix bakery will re-package their products on request, to adjust quantities. The bakery girl could not believe that I was asking for five hot dog rolls until I showed her the five-pack of hot dogs.

"Oh my God! This can't be a coincidence!"

Actually, yes, it can be a coincidence, and really, that is exactly what it is. So sorry to crush your fantasies.

Ironically, folks telling you that are more likely part of an "op" themselves, whether they're aware of it or not.

The psychology of conspiracy theories is of course well-researched. People look for extraordinary causes to extraordinary events. A president everyone projected hope for change on got killed by a lone gunman with an Italian mail-order rifle? Inconceivable, even though lone gunmen killed three presidents before. A bunch of Arabs with boxcutters brought down the World Trade Center, leading to decades of costly warfare? Naw, must have been the Mossad, and George W. Bush was in on it. A pandemy leads to heavy-handed government reaction and economic cost? Clearly nature doesn't cause this, must be a Chinese bio-weapon ordered by the Judeo-masonic world conspiracy to reduce the global population through vaccination. A megalomaniac dictator invades the neighbor country on the pretext that both peoples are actually the same? Surely that has never happened before, the US, NATO, WEF and sundry other globalist-Zionist alphabet soup groups must have tricked him into it. Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Saddam Hussein were unavailable for comment.

It's also human nature to look for scapegoats. You don't need to take responsibility for the circumstances of your life or the state of your nation if you can blame it on the Jews who harvest the blood of Christian children to make their unleavened bread, or a shadowy global elite who are slightly more sophisticated in harvesting the adenochrome from the blood of children for its well-established rejuvenating properties. Just knowing The Truth makes you feel superior and sets you apart from the ignorant masses of The Sheeple letting themselves be manipulated by The Elites with their disdain for the ignorant masses. Theologists have pointed out similarities with Gnosticism in early Christianity, and there's a definite sectarian streak to conspiracy thought; though like all good sectarians, conspiracy believers seem to invest most of their energy into fighting fellow believers which divert from their own Truth.

The rise of the internet has clearly given a push to the spread of such thought. The crazy guy who used to ramble about evil powers on a soap box in the corner of a park now has a blog with a million followers and calls himself a citizen journalist, so is obviously a respectable source. Algorithms on social media see to it that everyone gets fed only the news they like and reinforce their beliefs. Naturally those mechanism are also ripe for exploitation by actors who want to promote particular narratives, or just create general insecurity and distrust in any information. There's a propaganda technique known as "flooding the zone with shit" (coined by Steve Bannon IIRC), pushing multiple contradictory conspiracy theories so eventually noone knows what's right and wrong anymore, and actual facts become only one optional belief among many; Russia used that to great success after the MH17 shootdown over Ukraine, and again after the North Stream pipeline sabotage. If you can't trust anyone, certainly you can't trust your own government.

Other actors like China and Iran are using the same techniques to shape opinions and create divisions in Western societies, utilizing paid trolls and bots to push narratives which are then taken up by human conspiracy believers, frequently playing both sides in polarizing debates. I'm sure Western actors are doing some of the same; last year there was an extensive media investigation into an Israeli "cyber mercenary" company running international influence operations for paying customers. These days, conspiracy thought is a marriage between human nature and technology made in Hell. Even 20 years ago, I watched from afar as a woman lost herself so much in this stuff that she eventually committed murder-suicide by driving her car into an alley tree along with a daughter, both wearing no seatbelts (of course her followers knew immediately that she had been "silenced"). With the advent of artificial intelligence, God help us when fake news get succeeded by "fake reality" with fully believable AI-generated video etc.
