Rule #1: Use enough gun |
http://www.al.com/business/ind...ml#incart_river_home A federal agency is suing Sammy's Gentlemen's Club Fort Walton Beach location on behalf of a man who says he was discriminated against for a job because of his sex. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit Thursday on behalf of James Sharp, who applied in person for a position as a bartender at the Fort Walton location in October of 2015. Sharp alleges in the suit that a the manager told him they did not hire male bartenders. Sharp had both bar tending and management experience. The suit claims Sammy's subsequently hired at least two woman for bartender jobs. According to the lawsuit, Sammy's hired 17 female bartenders and no male bartenders during 2015 at the Fort Walton Beach location. The EEOC asserts that this would violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits sex discrimination for any job applicant. Attempts to reach Sammy's for comment Thursday were unsuccessful. Sammy's has locations in Birmingham on Valley Avenue, Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach. "Although sex-based discrimination against women may be more common than against men, employers must realize that no person, male or female, can be denied employment based on sex, except in the rare instances when gender is a bona fide occupational qualification," EEOC Regional Attorney Marsha Rucker said in a press release. "When hiring decisions are made based on an applicant's sex, the EEOC will act to enforce the federal laws that were enacted to prohibit such discrimination." The US male has been the underdog in gender biased court proceedings for years. This guy now decides to fight back in the same venue and he's a twat waffle? I missed something, was the hiring process gender biased? If so what was the correct thing this guy should have done? Cut the owner's tires? Burn the club down?

Aside from the backstory with Para and Alpine, I agree with you fellas. Fair is fair, can't just have empty heads and stuffed bras behind the bar. I've worked in more than enough restaurants and bars over the last twenty years to where I hope he's successful in his suit, simply put. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

Alpine, Wow. I guess I didn’t see what was right in front of me. My deepest apologies. I didn’t realize what we were really talking about. I see now where you are coming from. And yes, now that I ‘get it’, I completely support you and your kind. You like to go to Clubs with half naked men behind the bar, on the pole, and giving out bottles of ‘Champagne’ in the back rooms, and there is nothing wrong with that. I fully endorse your lifestyle and wish you success in all of your endeavors and pursuits. Please forgive me for not seeing what we were talking about before. I have a friend like you, that goes to ‘those types’ of Bars and Clubs. We get along great. He does his thing with his people and I do my thing with mine. We just give each other the room to explore each of our lifestyles. There is nothing wrong with you and the way you live your life. I wish you only the best. I regret any discrimination I might have showed your kind of Bar or Club. You know, especially in this day and age, it’s become quite acceptable for some young men to like those types of Bars and Clubs. We have some of those up here in the Northland, you know. I’ve never been to one, but my friend that I was talking about goes all the time. They tend to hire only young men, though. In fact the discrimination is set up just the opposite of what your man in the story is probably experiencing. From what I understand, Females are completely shut out of the business and entertainment that goes on there. Hmmmmm. Anyway, hat’s off to ya’, and good night. H&K-Guy

Oh stewardess, I speak jive. |
Places like Hooters, for instance, don't hire "Servers", they hire "Models who also serve", which, IIRC, somehow legally allows them the ability to not only make hiring decisions based on gender but also on attractiveness and dictate they wear those "uniforms". I'd expect that most strip clubs operate similarly.

Having been in that business once upon a time, that is 100% correct. Granted, we didn't have a problem with male bartenders. We were an entertainment venue who hired people to fill specific roles in our show. Just like Disney wouldn't hire a guy to play a princess, all of our entertainers were female. We had reception hosts, courtesy patrol, and other positions with odd names due to the roles they played. Those of us who filled management roles were directors.

This is what I don't get: Why can't a legitimate business have a legitimate business plan that exploits masculine sex drive? In other words, why can't that bar's business plan specifically call for attractive female bartenders only, no male bartenders? The business incentive to do that is obvious, and has NOTHING to do with discrimination (where "discrimination" is an unfounded preference for a characteristic, as opposed to a rational requirement for a characteristic). Thanks, Sap

Back in the '80s I worked in a very successful restaurant. The guys all started as dishwashers and the girls all started as "liqueur girls" who came around after your meal and recited the 17 different liqueurs you could choose from complimentary with your meal (non drinkers and those under age could have a sherbet instead). Guys could either work their way up to busboy or prep cook. Gals worked their way up to waitress. On a weekend night, girls working the main dining room would take home ar least $200 in tips. Busboys and cooks did get tipped out, but for a busboy, $20 was a typical weekend night. Is it any wonder that someone filed a sexual discrimination lawsuit to become a waiter? When I was there, the initial guy (who had sued to get the waiting job) had already left, but there was one waiter, the second guy to ever get that job. In a restaurant (other than an "entertainment themed" place like Hooters), the discrimination is bogus. In a strip club, me thinks the strip club screwed up with their job descriptions...
