I took home a new Volvo XC90 recharge a couple of days ago. I put on STEK Dyno paint protection film and will probably DIY a ceramic coating of some sort after correcting the paint.

Thinking now about the interior, the leather we have is a really nice light tan ("blonde", almost white). How do we feel about a protective leather coating of some sort? Ceramic, perhaps? I know the dealer wanted to sell me a package but I politely declined.

What are people using out there and really impressed with?

Are you worried about sun damage (discoloration) or general conditioning/stain protection? I’ve had nice leather seats in 3 different vehicles- black and medium grey the longest. I use mother’s VLP once a month and despite having messy kids the leather has stayed in very good condition. Those cars were garaged so I’m not sure about the sun protection. I have light tan leather in my truck that I park outside and no issues with sun damage, but I’ve only had the truck for 1.5 years.

Personally I wouldn't opt for these sorts of products. The absolute best approach you can take is to keep the seats as clean as possible on a regular basis. Be really diligent at keeping them clean and moisturized and they'll look good for a very long time. There is nothing on the market that will prevent the seats from being heavily soiled or stained if the seats aren't maintained regularly.

I spent hours looking at every kind of ceramic and coating...very few offer UV protection - this one is fantastic and super easy to apply. I put this on my new Honda last year, two coats. It still works. I was a getting ready to do a new coat since, and Honda called, so I'm now going to put it only 2022. I'm in FLA, this has UV protection. I bought seat covers and they are a nice fabric. made the seats more comfortable. They are apita to put on until you figure it out.rixxu

I would not put anything on paint or leather seats.i have only owned Volvos the last 20 years. Thier paint holds up very well with weather and sun and so does the leather seats. If you really wanted to you could condition the seats every few years. Don't put anything on dashboard either. Just clean with a damp rag when needed. Don't use anything with chemicals on dash otherwise it might Crack.

The oldest Volvo I drove was an 850 wagon, after it was 20 years old and 230k miles (which I put 190k of on it) there was no damage to paint or dash and only minor ripping on drivers leather seat due to getting into and out of the vehicle so many years. I doubt any product would have eliminated that slight damage.

I would never. Couldn't possibly be bothered.

I'm not saying it's a scam in a literal sense... but it's too TruCoat-y for my tastes.
