Los Angeles Police officers were called to reports of a burglary at an address in the Granada Hills neighborhood on Saturday morning

Four suspects had entered a home and had allegedly threatened the homeowner with a gun

But the homeowner then shot one of the suspects, who died at the scene

A homeowner shot and killed a home invasion suspect in Los Angeles early Saturday morning while a grandmother and toddler were in the house.

Officers were called to a home in Swinton Avenue in the Granada Hills around 5am on Saturday after someone reported a 'hot prowl' - a burglary where the homeowner is present.

'The officers’ preliminary investigation determined that approximately three to four armed males in their 20s entered the home with the intent to burglarize the location,' according to LAPD officials.

'A suspect pointed a weapon at the victim and while the suspects were inside the residence, the victim produced a firearm and a shooting occurred.'

One of the suspects - a man - was hit by gunfire and died at the scene.

The name of the deceased burglar has not been released.

The other three suspects fled the scene and have not yet been identified, but police said a 'trail of blood' suggested one of them had been injured.

'It is believed that an additional suspect was injured during the incident due to a trail of blood located during the investigation,' authorities said.

There was also a grandmother and a toddler in the house at the time.

Video from the scene shows the unnamed male homeowner being detained by police during the initial investigation, but it is not known if he has been charged.

Police found a vehicle linked to the suspects.

Neighbors were alarmed by the incident but told KTLA that they aren't surprised.

Pat Walsh said: 'We’ve been having burglaries every day in this neighborhood.

'So I’m not surprised at all. It’s been a real problem. Residents here are fed up.'

Story seems straight forward unless they knew the homeowner but even then it was a robbery or burglary.

Do you really actually think that everybody on the scene of a shots fired/ fresh homicide doesn’t get cuffed at first? Really?

You get the fact that the responding officers don’t get to read the news article prior to showing up at the scene? That there are not designated good guy/ bad guy jerseys?

You will be cuffed. And often put into a secured vehicle, too. With the dash cam turned back to focus on you.

Non-Californians may not realize it, but despite all its problems, all the craziness emanating from there, all the nuisance regulations that make it difficult to buy guns or ammunition, the state has no problem with a righteous self-defense shoot.

If you happen to read The Garbage Pundit, their sensationalism headline says, "Heroic LA Homeowner Guns Down Would-Be Burglar After Four Men Break Into His House With a Grandmother and Toddler Inside – Police Respond by Arresting the Homeowner", and in the article, "But the heroic homeowner’s actions did not go unpunished. Video footage at the scene shows the hero being handcuffed following the incident. It is not known at this point whether he has been charged." If you have no info if he has been charged or not, how the hell did you come up with him being "arrested"? Detainment is not arrest.

But, when you read some other more objective source, The homeowner was taken in for questioning at the Devonshire Community Police Station but later released.

And yeah, that video from The Daily Mail tells you really nothing, except that it was still a hectic / uncontrolled scene, with some cops having their guns out of holsters.

Everyone gets secured at scene like that. Just because it appears like the homeowner SHOULD be the victim doesn’t mean that it’s so. It wasn’t my job to trust anyone until verification- bad guys have been known to lie on occasion.

OK, I get it. I must have missed crime scene 101 that day. Did they cuff the grandmother and toddler too? How about the neighbors that witnessed and were on scene?

I'm betting that the dead perp is called something like 'LeMort'...
